And you know what else all this means?  Rhea Mae's Tiago & Quest's Kendal are full brothers.  I knew they were both hatched at King St., just didn't know all the birds were the same!  hyper

Holy "As the Falcon Turns"!!!!!!   Grin

AND...Erin's parents are Raynie & Leopold...Raynie being the female displaced by Archer's sister, Millie, who successfully nested with Leopold in 2009 & 2010.

Erin's sister is Kathy Q (properly Chantal) of Indy.  Raynie was the sister of Nora from Black Dog.

Let's try it this way...
Windwhistler @ Sheraton AND King St. 2004-2007

Windwhistler @ King St. ONLY 2008-present
Erin is Mandy. We identified her recently from a 2002 photo from King St and a 2011 photo at King St. "Mandy" was a name given when she was unidentified. If U look back Mark just has a bad memory. Erin was ID'd 3 years in a row. Each year he posted as if it was new news.

Tiago only replaced Windwhistler at the Sheraton.  Windwhistler has been nesting continuously at King St. since 2004.

Yes, I meant WW has been at King St since 2007. I'm confusing myself now!!

The short version-Jack & Archer are not the original tiercels with 2 active nests.

Windwhistler (he was called Spike at one of the nests until it became clear it was the same bird) was the resident tiercel at both the Sheraton with Wind and at King St. with Mandy for several years.  At the Sheraton, Rhea Mae displaced Wind and Tiago (hatched King St. 2005) displaced his father.  It has been difficult to get a band read on the tiercel at King St. for a while now, but I think most everyone thought it was still Windwhistler.  That has now been confirmed.

I don't know when Erin displaced Mandy, but I know she was only ID'd as the new female in the last year or so.

Ok thanks! So Windwhistler has been around since 2007 when Tiago replaced him? (At King St)? Supposedly? Falcons can be so confusing at times!  OMG now Erin is Mandy too!! Help me!

Ah hah!  Now it all makes sense! I don't recall seeing it posted as this is who has always been here & we finally figured out who she is!  I guess once my brain thought it was a new female (though she did seem old to be starting out at a new scrape) and not Tiago's mother I didn't pay 100% attention!  I will fix the family tree over the weekend!

It sure does look like Beauty to me!  I wonder if she was more patrolling than hunting?  Good to see her!

Recently we received photos of the resident male at our 18 King St location. Thanks to Steve Warner of Solar Window Washing, who has sent us some of the photos that he managed to snap while operating the swing stage during the 2011 banding,we can say with 100% certainty that it is Windwhistler(aka Spike) who will be 14 this year! His mate at King St is Erin who will also be 14 this season.  Windwhistler was the resident male from 2004-2007 at The Toronto Sheraton and at 18 King St. He fathered young at both nests during this period. He was replaced at the Sheraton by one of his 18King St sons, named Tiago. Windwhistler stayed at 18 King St nest and continued to produce. Fathering chicks at 2 nests has made him the most prolific breeder in Ontario, with 39 young hatched over the years. At least 5 of his young are known to be nesting elsewhere now. This is great news!!

Can you say that again a bit slower. I'm so confused!  Shocked

I spotted this Sharp-shinned Hawk fly through my backyard this afternoon and catch a snack! I didn't want to scare it off so I shot through the window! Ahh, first time I've even picked up my camera in about 3 weeks! Here's the fb link:

They are selling T-shirts for the cause.

Where are they selling them?

Sounds like you have to message the gal on the "Rochesterians For Crows" FB page -tell her your size, pay with check/cash or they can set it up through Paypal-$15/shirt. That's about all it said.

Thanks-I'll check it out from home-can't FB at work (luckily this site manages to not set off the "social networking" flags on the firewall  secret2 )

On my way home from work this evening I saw the most extraordinary Canada Goose formation!  Thankfully there's a parking area along the way & I stopped for pictures. My DSL connection here is VERY slow tonight, so I'll try to upload all 90 some pictures from work tomorrow...

Anyway. I first saw them heading west as I was driving south.  Hundreds.  Hundreds & hundreds & hundreds.  They seemed to be heading from the Hudson River (right) to the Ashokan Reservoir (left)...pink pushpins-the center one is where I was parked

http://g.co/maps/kk46m actual map

Fuzzy & distant-it was getting dark quickly-and there were more off to the right-heading over the mountain to the reservoir.

I was just about to get in the car when I realized they had ALL turned around and were heading back east toward the Hudson!

They just kept coming...

WOW!

According to the reports on the ground, #2 was skittish with all the human activity just like #1 was.  #3, Dirty Tail, seemed to not be bothered at all by the people around, so it will be interesting to see if she's the one that winds up staying.

Certainly is being a learning opportunity!
