It's always good to remember those who awakened both the general public and the scientists to the effects of DDT on the environment, particularly raptors. pfalcon Every time I go to Hawk Mountain in PA and see the photos of hunters knee deep in dead migrating raptors, I remember other scientists and conservationists who helped bring an end to the slaughter.

What a nice story! newyearbd We lived on Lake Ontario for 34 years and the old-timers always spoke of the sturgeon that were no longer in the lake. The recovery of a species like sturgeon that takes years to reach sexual maturity and live such long lives makes me joyous and hopeful that some of what we've eliminated by careless can be brought back. According to this story, the first release was the year after we moved away, but there had been plenty of publicity about the project before then. thanx for posting!

Hi Dot, my source tells me Kendal is doing well but is not releasable due to his extensive injuries. He'll make a wonderful education bird.  wave

I'm so sorry to hear that. At least we can still follow Quest and Skye on the Canadian Peregrine Foundation site.  Which reminds me - was there ever any official word or updates on Kendall?

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong place for my post but here goes anyway. Several photos have shown the falcons perched on the edge of the netting around the KO nest box, and it looks like a serious hazard to me. I don't know who is in charge, but can someone get the netting removed before falcon talons get caught up in it?

Sure hope her new beak works out well. It's sad she can't be released, but hopefully she and the trafficked male will produce offspring.
