Thanks, Debbie!  Dot in PA

I think they are burrowing owls. They take over burrows made by other critters, like ground squirrels. They are very tiny, too.

Sad This is a disgraceful blot on Central Park management and the DEC who approved the nest box removal. Shades of Pale Male ...

Cry How dreadful!  And even worse is that "streamers" sound like beautiful shooting stars, never mind the poor birds. One bird every two minutes is a statistic beyond belief. Just when I thought I've heard all the bad-for-birds environmental news, along comes something like this.  crying

Sad Yes, the decline of bats is a terrible thing. This white-nose syndrome has been around quite a while and very little has been found to help stop it.  bat Bats are not cute and most people fear them, but they are efficient pollinators as well as predators of insects that attack crops. It would be nice if funds were set aside to find a cure BEFORE many of our crops are endangered instead of AFTER the damage has been done.  Honeybees, another major pollinator, also are in serious decline.  Sooner or later many of the farm-grown grains and fruits we now take for granted are going to be very scarce and very expensive. Let's hope help comes before then.

thumbsup After all the sad falcon news lately, it's really great to see that our Lynn from 2007 successfully raised at least one set of eyases!

I am well, MAK, thanks for asking. It would be really nice if Veteran brought back a mate to his old stomping grounds by you so he wouldn't be tempted to interfere with Beauty, DC, and fledglings.

MAK,I've also been thinking of you all day because it seemed so absolutely fitting that your new place came with a pair of falcons. I feel so bad for you and for Luzerne and Veteran. I'm sad too for all of us who got to know her a bit through your reports. Falcons seem not to dwell on sorrowful events like many of us humans do, and perhaps in due time Veteran will attract another mate. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

There are now 2 versions of the tree...one following the Kodak branch and another following the Times Square branch...

...though they do overlap in places. I update them during the down time in the winter.

Oh dear. Unfortunately I thanked you before actually trying the above link. I have Adobe Reader but even with the highest zoom, the falcon names are much too blurry to read. I even tried changing the screen resolution but still couldn't read a thing. And yes my eyeglasses are fine. Any ideas? Has anyone else tried to read this file recently?
