What a disgusting horror! I have heard plenty about the plastics problem in the ocean, but seeing this really sad and frightening video made me realize that I had not even begun to recognize the enormity of how our plastic discards adversely affect wildlife. Also I had no idea that adult albatrosses feed this stuff to their chicks. Do you suppose the plastic was hidden in a fish or whatever they feed the babies? This should be required viewing not just for every government official involved in the recycling process, but for all consumers. In my area almost everything is recycled, even textiles and metal, but unfortunately not plastic bottle caps. Like he said, it will take at least a decade to get rid of what's already in the water, let alone the amount of plastic added to it daily. Really really awful!!!!

Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Is Mr. T the new male at KP?

A couple of days ago, someone mentioned photos of the lady peregrine at KP and the new male that had joined her soon after Archer arrived home, but I haven't seen any more mention of this. Is the male Mr. T?? That would really be great, since I've been worried about him.

Although I never met Scratch, I always loved seeing her pictures during falcon watch weekends. Scratch was the first pet chicken I've ever seen. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Other Nature Related Information / Raptor Web Cams / Re: Chris' Eastern Screech Owl Box - cleaning out the bees

I have enjoyed Chris' screech owls in the past but I really wish I hadn't read that latest blog entry. Poor bees, who are already experiencing devastating losses across the country. There are many beekeepers in my area who are more than willing to remove and relocate successful hives that have settled in the wrong place. It seems anti-nature to protect one troubled species by killing another, like some purple martin landlords who will shoot a bluebird to protect their martin colonies, or shoot wolves to protect other wild creatures or domesticated animals. Very discouraging and very sad.
