Nest box comparison from one month ago to today.

It's really sad when you walk out the door and breath in the cold 10 degree (F) air and think, it's really kind of nice out here.   laugh

No new snow, no wind to speak of and the roads were clear down to pavement.  Have a nice day everyone!

Glad that at least one chick has made it.  Sad for the loss of the other one.

*sigh*

Seems to be an unbanded peregrine in the nest box. The fal-cam continues to be down, but UT's security people kindly created access for TPP only. Would be sorry if Belle and/or Allen are no longer our resident birds.

BLurb and photos of unbanded.

Thanks for the update Carly.  I hope that Belle and Allen are ok.   heart

Good catch Ciuciek!  Thanks for the heads up!   clap

Kestrels are definitely bold little falcons.  What a great size comparison.  Thanks for posting the pics Donna!

http://neblandvm.outdoornebraska.gov/2015/02/peregrine-falcon-shocker/ Another male spotted at Woodmen!!

Quote
So was this just a winter foray of discovery?  Will 19/K be back at the Capitol come spring?  Or will we find a new male has taken over at the Capitol?  Will 19/K become the new male at the Woodmen?  Does this mean he displaced his own offspring (Mintaka)?

Seems like changes are a coming all over!!

Lots of changes for sure.

It's a heatwave here in Rochester, NY!  When I woke up this morning for work, it was 20 degrees ABOVE zero and snowing.  25 degrees warmer than it was at that time yesterday morning.   clap

The snow made for some sloppy travel this morning.  But traffic was still moving, a little slower than usual, but that's ok.  Slow and easy gets you where you're going.

Temps are expected to drop during the day, and we might get a bit of sun later on.  I'm all good with that!

Take care everyone and keep thinking those springtime thoughts!   rose flowers rose

Haven't been here in a long time -- like so many of us, life gets busy.  Just want to say I miss all of you and the old days of the Kodak board and kfalconcam.  But I'm so glad you have all kept this up and I do remember to check now and then this time of year.  Still miss Mariah and Kaver, but know Beauty and DotCa have captured your hearts as well!
Vandrefalk

Karen!  So nice to hear from you!   wave

I will forever remember and miss Mariah and Kaver.  They were the reason why so many of us came together.  Now we have Beauty & Dot.ca and they are a pair to be reckoned with.  Especially now that Pigott has moved on to find a new mate and raise young of her own.  The magic of new life in the nest box continues on.

Mariah and Kaver's legacy also continues.  Billie, their granddaughter has made Rochester her home.  I do hope that she and her mate 99 select a safe location to nest and raise babies of their own this year.  That would be wonderful!   heart

Take care my friend.  Hope to hear from you again soon.   happy

My singing Cardinal on Sunday was the first and only sign of the coming Spring.  The snow banks on the sides of my driveway and street are about 3-4 foot high.  Too much snow on the roofs.  There is going to be a lot of damage when this all starts to melt.  Have to shovel most days, sometimes twice, even with a plow guy.  I am so ready for SPRING!!!   yahoo finch flowers

Aafke, please post some pictures of your wonderful garden!!   wave

Why the heck are we colder???? -9 here! High of 19 today!  stupid Snow is cool, frigid temps, you can have them!!  devil

But we don't want them!  So you keep them!   Evil

You know how I know Spring is coming?  I heard my first singing Cardinal Sunday morning.  They have been around, but this little guy was singing his heart out trying to attract a mate!   whistle

At 5:00 am it was -5 (F) frigid degrees with a wind chill of -26 degrees.  But not to worry.  The temps will soar up into the 20's during the day with some sunshine too!  Woohoo!  Have a great day everyone and stay warm and safe.  Last week of February, moving into March!   clap

Both Rhea Mae and Tiago were just on the nest ledge, now gone.
