5671  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Jemison's Rescue Album by Lou (2010) on: 26-Sep-12, 06:12:10 PM
A few of you had recently asked about Jemison's rescue back in 2010.  Lou put together this album of pictures documenting the rescue.  Lou told me that when his KGallery albums were moved to Shutterfly, some of the pictures were out of order.  So, if you're interested in checking it out, just click on the link below.

Thanks Lou!   happy

Thanks to every one for your votes. Le Nichoir will receive 37,249$. It is a great amount for them.
Congratulations to BC: 38,930$ also to help wild animals.

You are a nice gang. Too bad we live so far.

I am leaving today for Toulouse, France for vacation. Wednesday I will be in Albi to look at the cathedral wich have also a nest box for falcon. Remember the eyas who fall from the nest and recuperate by his mother beak to beak.

BC,

The Xerox Tower is taller than the Kodak Tower.

Kodak Tower = 360 Ft
Xerox Tower = 443 Ft

A business is moving into Frank's spot in October. Orange Glory Cafe and Catering (http://www.orangeglorycafe.com) will serve breakfast, lunch, and of course coffee. It will have indoor seating and hopefully wi-fi. This would be a great place for watchers to stop in to get out of the cold and order something hot while using their smartphones to check on the cameras and Forum.

Well, if I had a smart phone, I sure would do that!   lol  Coffee sounds good though.   happy

WanderingFalcon (Carol P.): KPT at KP at the red door east stack. Gorgeous pure white front on this bird. Adult plumage.

WanderingFalcon (Carol P.): KP. Oh my goodness! This one runs like Orion. He ran to the left down the catwalk. Now in front of a ladder. Dana and Lou here.

so is this a different KPT then the KPT that has been there?

Without getting a look at the bands, if banded, there is no way to know if this is the same bird or not.  The watchers believe there may have been two Pefas here since Unity left that area.  I believe that I may have seen a female today, based on size.  This bird had a bright white chest.  Adult plumage.  Beautiful bird.  Hopefully, some day, we will get a positive ID.   happy

What is an “Assist”?

I’ll use this term when an adult bird “helps” a juvie in flight. It could be the first flight or a subsequent shaky flight. An adult will fly closely alongside or underneath the juvenile to guide it. I have never witnessed body contact but I would assume it is possible. The adult will often try to force the young bird to a safe landing as it guides it either up or down to that spot.

This is exactly what Mariah did for Isaura.  Assisted her back to the Kodak Tower, gently nudging her from behind and below, lifting her.  Yes, there was physical contact between them.  This happened on my first Falcon Watch 10 years ago!  I will never forget it.   wub2

WanderingFalcon (Carol P.): Dana and I watched as B tucked in under the platform and did not vocalize as a juvie pefa circled above and then headed SE towards DT.

Can it be our Orion?

Hi Annette.  The bird was high above, so I'm afraid it was impossible to know if it was Orion or not.  I really hope it was though.
