Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Eggs or No Eggs at KP! That is the Question!

I spent a few hours at KP this morning and Unity was again laying down in the scrape, like she's incubating. Archer was up inside the pigeon box, which is very close to the scrape. The whole time I was there, neither moved, so I was not able to get a look at what she's laying on with the scope. I'll try again later. All of this is very interesting, but I freely admit that I have no idea what's going on here. This is all new to us and all we can do is observe and report, which we will. We'll all learn together. As to the question about the pigeon poop hole aka scrape. I asked Mark about that and he wasn't too concerned. I continue to keep the DEC updated on what is going on and hopefully next year a nest box or tray can be installed. - Carol P.

I can't find a video link but Mike Allen was interviewed on rnews about the comeback of eagles. Wonderful pictures and very touching. He is such a great guy!
And quite handsome, I may add! Great story and love the little eaglet! I love listening to Mike talk about the Eagles he so dearly loves.

Univ of Buffalo Falcons - 7/3/11 - Just a quick observation. These 4 juvies and 2 adults are a joy to watch. I so needed a Fledgling Fix after not having any to watch here in Rochester. The talon tagging just before dark was better than any 4th of July Fireworks! At least to us. One thing we were a little surprised by. There is one very small male that is probably the youngest. He is definitely getting more attention from BB (the mom). She actually took about 15 mins to feed him while another two juvies looked on. We've nick named him BB Jr (Baby Boy Jr). Not to worry about him though, he is flying and landing wonderfully. We all gave him a 10 on his landing on the water tower when he joined his 3 siblings. If you live in or close to Buffalo, you should definitely get to one of the nest sites and check them out before these young ones leave the area. Enjoy what is out there and keep your eyes wide open. You never know what you'll see and be sure to share that excitement and observation with the people around you. - Carol P.

~Peregrine Place~ Peregrine watchers from Buffalo and Rochester told to leave the grounds of Central Terminal by Mark Lewandowski's guy!
(I wonder what's going on)
Just to get the story straight, Kathy O, Dana and I were never requested to leave the Central Terminal. We were not there when Sage and Roger were asked to leave and never received a call from Sage about it. She did call Joyce, who did not listen to the message until later in the day. We finally heard about what happened that day, later that afternoon, when we received a call from Joyce. We had seen Sage and Roger early that morning, but left them to go to the University of Buffalo. It must have happened after that. To make a long story short, we spent quite a long time at Central Terminal on and off all day long, from morning to night. We actually sat and ate our lunch there while there were people going in and out of the building. No one approached us to tell us to leave. Many people did come over and ask us what we were watching and were very excited to hear about the Falcons. I even had my scope out to positively ID Commodore. Again, I just wanted to let everyone know what happened at least from our perspective.

Then, at 6pm, I got a call from Linda Woods. Apparently Kate had a brush with a building about 2pm and ended up on a sidewalk on University Avenue just west from the Sheraton!! No one was more surprised than me!
It happens. A similar situation occurred here a year ago this weekend when Jemison went down a block and a half from where MAK was watching. She didn't know about it until a police officer driving by told her that a bystander had reported it to the authorities. She rushed over there just in time to see Animal Control taking Jemison away. BTW, kudos to the officer for informing MAK of the situation when he didn't have to. That's called going above and beyond the call of duty. I remember it like it was yesterday! Jemison stole my heart forever that day as I got out of the truck and peered into that pet carrier he was in. Those big beautiful eyes staring back at me. It was like we were frozen in time until the animal control officer said he was going to take dear, sweet Jemison away. Off to the vets they went and I fell to pieces. I also found out that day just how special my newly made falcon watching friends can be. Near AND far away friends really helped me out and I really appreciated it and still do. All the watchers out that day got to see him when he went down the second time in the parking lot next to the Times Square building. I don't think anyone involved will ever forget it. You never forget.
