I told our friend Kathryn B at Harlequin, who's office is directly across from Quest and Kendal's scrape, That she should keep watching, because Harlequin would be growing like a weed!  I'm not quite sure she believed me, but I think she does now.

She sent me some comparison shots of how much Harlequin grew in only a week.  Pretty amazing comparision.

and this is what she expects to see next week!

 scared blue

and yes, this is a joke.  This is not how Harlequin will look next week.   lol

I'm sure everything will be just fine with this little one.  Rhea Mae was a big eater.  Ask Shaky.   lol

Hey Margaret/All,

Maybe I misunderstood, but I think you said there was a failed nest in 2006?  2006 is the year that Mariah severly injured her foot/leg.  She had actually laid 6 eggs that year.  A record.  Archer was on the eggs and I immediately knew something was wrong when he ducked down his head and pulled out an egg shell.  Imagine his surprise and mine!  Kaver had never had an eyas hatch under him before.  It was always Mariah.

That year 3 eyases hatched.  2 of the 3 have gone on to successfully have young of their own.  You may have heard of them.  Rhea Mae & Sabrina aka Valiant.   wub2 wub2

That is what makes watching these creatures so fascinating to us.   They do not know their lives are under a microscope, and that we silly humans try to piece together their lives and instincts in terms of only what we know -- being HUMAN!   They only know being BIRD!  We watch because we are fascinated, because we come to care for them AND for the people who WATCH them.
I am not a scientist or biologist, but I am a  long time bird lover, bird watcher, and bird keeper in my home  and I do know I learn every day from observing all of the birds that are in our lives.  I know from my 22 year old parrot that birds have intelligence, and can communicate, and operate on instinct.  I know my bird reacted to the loss of his long time companion and still reacts to her name.
I learn from listening and reading the posts of the more experienced watchers, and have always been in awe of the time, knowledge, and yes, humor and heartbreak that is shared on this forum.
Until Carly brought up 2009 nesting, I think  I blocked it out.  That was a terrible year with Mariah being injured.  You may be on to something, Carly.  That was probably a failed nest, and I blocked it out completely..Only two last year, and then this year's nest failure.    Instinct would drive Archer to procreate.
And instinct is driving Beauty as well.   And we will all keep watching and hoping! heart

Maybe I should have clarified by saying sad for "me" instead of "us".  Yes, "ups" to all the other happenings (Mr. T was never identified because he was unbanded-that was just a name given to him, I think, by MAK) but I was really looking forward to Beauty and Archer's little ones. It's also hard to accept that Beauty no longer has a mate but hopefully this winter or next spring she will find a new one. It would be nice if Mr. T reappeared-he was cute and really liked B!

Actually Joyce gave Mr. T his name.  T = Tiercel.   wave

!!! A Few more days till ready
June 05, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:

These photos taken today shows how fast the little ones mature. I found them snoozing and enjoying the warm sunshine. William appears to be the loner of the group, as he spend all of his time at the other end of the ledge during my visit.

Fledge Watch will begin this Wednesday June 8th and will be in full swing by the weekend.

The first one to fly should be Sunshine, green tape, then Kate, blue tape.

Funny-I had noticed Kate wanting to be alone!  And I think William may go before Kate-he doesn't have much fluff left...

There will be 4 extra Watchers to help with Rhea Mae and Tiago's Fledge Watch this Saturday and Sunday.  Kathy O, Dana, Lisa McK and I will be up in Canada to see Linn's eyases banded and to visit ALL the Rochester Falcons nest sites, including Stormin's.  I've already notified Linda W and Anne in Toronto to let them know we would be there.  Can't wait!!!   clap heart

I noticed that too, today.  Quest is certainly sitting tight on little Harlequin!   But Harlie is growing, and I do see feeding.  So good to have an eyas to watch!    Especially one from our Quest.
Falcon folk:  when is the updated Quest tour tee shirt coming out?   Suggestion:  the front should look like the bodice-ripping classic cover of a Harlequin romance (of old) with Quest and Kendal and the back should continue the dates updated from last March 2010 -- I think it is.   Just a suggestion :-)
"Happily ever after"  with little Harlequin somewhere on the tee!  Maybe Ms. Hayes can provide some  creative ideas!

Hahahaha!   hysterical I could just see Shaky wearing one of these.   devil

Good idea though Margaret.  We're working on one.  Hopefully soon.

Kris - We were just talking about that this evening.  We think June may have it.  Of course we'd have to get permission from Kodak to put it up.  First I'll have to check with June.

Actually it was an absolutely gorgeous day, sunny & warm with a cool breeze.  Just perfect weather for snoozing.   lol

OK, yes it was warm  sleepy, and I was snoozing  snore, oh and by the way, ee-chuping makes a wonderful alarm clock.  My texting skills are not the best to begin with on my cheap cheap  hatch1 chick3 cell phone so, V & U are right next to each other so, well U became V and KO became KP and well, you get the idea.   crazy

I know it can get warm out there watching Falcons while sitting in the sun. Whatever happened to the canopy that Kodak gave to the Falcon Watchers to sit under out of the sun?  I know it was given to the watchers in 2008-just before the nest box was taken down that same year.

Ok, so B was at KO and headed North! Would this be correct?  poke

Donna - Didn't they tell you NOT to poke the bear!   dogbite devil

If you look at the original tweet, you'll see that I already added the correction that I should have noted that I was downtown not at KP, and that Miss Beauty flew north from the nest box.   paperbag lol

Not official yet...but CPF is here for our banding and Frank just me ..that "STORMIN' is the new male who took over the Yonge & Eglinton site!!  He said I could post it for you guys...details to follow when they have some time.

Running back down to see my kids...they're on the way down from the ledge now...

This is incredible news Carly.  Thanks to you and Big Frank for letting us know.  Another M&K grandkid and the first Rhea Mae young one to be seen after leaving the nest site.  Great News!   clap heart
6720  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 03-Jun-11, 05:16:34 PM

Quest likes her sunbath too...

The whole family!

I meant to ask...is Kendal large for a tiercel?  He appears pretty big in these pics...

In my opinion, Kendal is a good size for a tiercel. He has long legs! The veteran watchers could answer better, having more experience than I.  Grin

Long legs seem to be a trait of good dads.   Wink
