My son and family live off of Weiland.  We will be visiting them for 2 weeks the end of May - beginning of June.  Maybe I can get in some "watching" at KP.  Now that we live in TN, I miss the Rochester action SO much.

You are most welcome to join us anytime Lizz.  I look forward to meeting you.

Sleeping Beauty.  The weather people say it will stop raining sometime overnite.  More rain expected each day through Friday, but not as frequent and as heavy as it has been this weekend.  So far, next weekend is looking good.  Poor Lilac Festival.

Margaret - The KP scrape is very well protected.  It is covered and up against a wall.  I'm sure it gets wet in all this rain, but it actually seems to be a good spot. - Carol P.

At 1:45, Archer tried talking her out of the nestbox, but no dice! He sat for a moment, all soggy and wet, and then he flew off for something drier.

These poor birds.  Looking at these pictures of Beauty and Archer, and then Rhea Mae and Tiago...the weather is awful.  Cold, wet, windy, non-stop rain, and it's supposed to continue all week.   Those shingles from NYC nest are sounding pretty good right now.
I know their body temps operate differently than a human's, but don't they have to expend an awful lot of energy to keep those eggs warm?
Is the PPH at KP  as exposed to the wind and rain as TSS nest is?
6785  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Eggs or No Eggs at KP! That is the Question! on: 15-May-11, 05:36:47 PM
I don't know for sure if they'll be able to band the KP eyases or not.  As far as I can tell, there is no access to that area.  We're in close contact with Kodak and the DEC.  I hope, together with them, we'll figure it out.

If Unity's eggs hatch are the eyases going to be able to be banded? anybody know?

They are so precious...

This is an awesome picture of RM feeding her (& Tiago's) 4.  Thanks for posting it Joyce.  They are beautiful eyases!   heart

Nice picture of Beauty coming into the nest box at 2:05 pm.  You can see the water beading up on her back.  It's been over cast and rain here in Rochester all day.  Wish the sunshine would come out.

i've posted a few pictures of the gho nest in my sister's yard - one owlet has definitively branched, the other comes in and out of the nest. there are three baby squirrels in the yard, remarkably. They're not too bright, as you can see. (sorry - this post is in the wrong category, but I'm too lazy to redo it...)

Nice pictures Dale!  It's so cool that you're able to keep watch on this GHO nest.  Thanks for sharing!   clap
6789  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Eggs or No Eggs at KP! That is the Question! on: 14-May-11, 12:51:04 AM
I know everyone has been very patient about waiting to hear if there are any eggs at Kodak Park.  The Watchers have been very busy trying confirm if there are any.  From the ground, through scopes and long lenses, we have witnessed behavour that suggests there is at least one egg in the scrape.  Dana and I thought we could see a bit of dark red in the scrape through the scope this past weekend, the color of a Peregrine egg.  But we couldn't be sure.

This afternoon, an employee spoke to Joyce.  He wanted to let us know that they were pretty sure that there are two eggs in the scrape!

We will continue to keep an eye on the situation at KP and report what we see and try to get & share more information.

My first answer would be a resounding NO WAY!  Well thanks to Kathy B for forwarding to me this link to Kate St. John's Blog.  She is the "Jess" to the Cathedral of Learning nestsite in Pittsburg, PA, where Beauty hatched.  Go forth and read and be amazed.   Shocked

This is a surprise but also a surprise that she says Unity has laid eggs.  How does she know this when it's never been confirmed by anyone here or if it has, we don't know about it yet?

She has been reading my tweets.  I have stated that I am sure that there is at least one egg based on behaviour.  We are working on getting confirmation.  We cannot get a good look, even with a scope from below.  The Blue Bldg. is on Kodak property.  We are working on it!

So sorry to hear that your mom is ill Ei.  Hope she feels better.  Safe trip.

I just want to let everyone know I'll be missing for a few days.  My mother is sick & it doesn't look good, so I'll be traveling to Florida tomorrow morning.  Dad has a computer but I don't know that I'll be near it much.
