6920  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: New Features for 2011 on: 30-Mar-11, 05:04:55 PM
While Shaky did a huge amount of work on the new look of our website, there were many other team members that made this all possible.  Thanks team!  I think it looks great.   thumbsup

Well, Rhea Mae is a Princess after all.   wub2 heart

I told her today that Rhea Mae at the Sheraton is already 2 eggs ahead but she seems nonplussed about it all Smiley
She's probably thinking I know Beauty doesn't have any yet either so  harhar

Just seeing if people were paying attention.   lol

The Pigeon Box is a square structure at the east end of the chute where lots of Pigeons fly up into.  Lady Pefa has figured out that this is a good place to get out of the weather and look for Pigeons at the same time.  Kind of like the elevator shaft on the OCSR.

OK that is a new one. What is the pigeon box?  confused

Another one for the glossary.

Addition:  Quest our transmitter bird.

and KO actually stands for Kodak Office (world headquarters) of which the Kodak Tower is the highest structure.

Definitely did not kill the RTH with that hit. A classic Kaver maneuver.

Have to agree with Shaky.  That hit probably only stunned the RTH, not killed it.  What happened after that is anyone's guess.  I've seen many Peregrine on RTH attacks, and none ended in death to the RTH.
6925  Anything Else / Totally OT / Re: I finally saw a beautiful falcon up close and personal..what an experience on: 27-Mar-11, 04:09:47 PM
and I'll never forget the look in those gorgeous eyes when she looked back over her shoulder and saw me.  Uhuh!  No way!  and away she went to a low building.  That was exactly what we wanted.  To have her safely off the ground and away from cars.

My first up close and personal was the day Quest fledged.  She flew very well, but couldn't get height to get back up to the roof of Kodak, and landed on the grassy area across the street on Brown.  Then she got herself up on the guard rail next to the alley.  We were very concerned with Quest being so close to the road where cars go by.  It was decided a rescue would be made.  Carol was behind Quest with her jacket, and I was approaching slowly from the front with another watcher to distract Quest.  Well, Quest would have none of it! She turned around, saw Carol and flapped her way to a low building.

I will never forget looking into those juvenile eyes. But little miss independence found her way to higher places over the next few hours.  And today, she is still the independent peregrine wandering around the  north shore of Lake Ontario.

Rhea was the first Peregrine I saw up close and personal.  I was mesmerized by her beauty.  I could not take my eyes off of her.  So I know exactly how you feel Paula.   happy
6927  Anything Else / Totally OT / The Loss of a Rochester Falcon Watcher - Kathy G. on: 25-Mar-11, 10:10:33 PM
It is with sadness that I post this.  Some of you may remember long time Watcher Kathy G.  She started watching when Mariah & Cabot-Sirocco were a pair at the Kodak Tower and through all the Mariah and Kaver years.  She & Dan were the first Watchers to meet on the pedestrian bridge during the early morning hours. She was a good friend to many of us.

This morning, Kathy lost her battle with lung cancer.   Sad

I will always remember her as a fellow Watcher and a friend.

Fly Free Kathy.  We'll miss you.

Linda W was going to try to get to the Sheraton for a closer look today.  I'll let you know when I hear from her.

6930  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Is Mr. T the new male at KP? on: 18-Mar-11, 10:00:24 PM
Dana has been out with her camera a couple nights this week.  No luck due to distance.  Maybe if we get a nice sunny afternoon.

Dot/all,  We're trying hard to get pictures that will allow us to ID the Tiercel hanging out with Lady Pefa.  So far, they have been too far away from where we park to do that.  We cannot get any closer.  This is Kodak property and they have been very accommodating, letting us park where we have a view of the area.  We'll keep trying.  I too hope it's Mr. T.
we need someone with a really long lens.  Embarrassed  Dana (I think), Jim
