Snowing yet again in the fair city of Rochester, NY. No visits at the nest box by Beauty or her friend yet today and I couldn't spot any falcons from KO South this morning. I'll look again this afternoon. Carol P. By the way...I was in another RFC section yesterday and spotted this note about last winter... 2010 - Beauty remains in Rochester for the winter. An unbanded adult male courts her in late February but disappers a few weeks later. Archer arrives in late March. I remember the unbanded male from last Winter. We had our suspicions that it might have been the male from the pair at the Brighton location, but we were never able to confirm this. Joyce is sure that the male being seen at the Brighton location currently is NOT the male being seen with Beauty. Carol P.

I cut and paste this from Donna's CPF report she posted this a.m. This is a report from the Sheraton in Toronto. Wonder if it was Rhea Mae or Tiago? Maybe Rhea Mae is considering taking up ballet! !!! At least one adult still very active on territory! December 29, 2010 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre CPF Postmaster Reports:
A lovely peregrine falcon just finished his/her dinner on the fence between the Alliance Francaise and The National Ballet of Canada at Spadina and Lakeshore before taking off south between the buildings. Very cool. I had no idea they wintered here. Thought it might be of interest. JoannaCarol, Our girl has been known to use her feet Oh, yes Jeanne. Rhea Mae is well known for her fancy footwork!

UFOTD time! (useless fact of the day). In most birds, 60-80% of their feathers are to be found on their head and neck. well there you go.
Ireland
Ok... gotta ask... How is this source "Ireland"? Something I should know?... or be concerned about?! Is someone in this broke and benighted country getting funding for this?? And, if so, is there any way I can get a gig with them?? Kindly respond with indecent alacrity. and who has time to count all those feathers!

The useless fact of the day (UFOTD) - Tengmalm's and Great Horned Owls, when recovering food they have stored and finding it frozen, will defrost it before eating it by incubating it like it's an egg.
From Ireland
Well, that's not a useless fact to the Tengmalms and GHOs!

OH MY! What is going on?!
It will be interesting if this Tiercel sticks around. Or maybe he has his own territory somewhere up north and is just spending the Winter with a friend. I think the same thing is happening with Stella at the Central Terminal nestsite in Buffalo. She has been hanging out with a new male, while her male is gone. It would have been neat if this Tiercel hanging out with Beauty was banded and we could track where he came from and maybe if he was already part of a nesting pair somewhere else.
