The team writes in Science journal that the penguin's feathers were brown and grey, distinct from the black "tuxedo" look of modern penguins.

It was nearly twice the size of an Emperor Penguin, the largest living species...

Reminds me of juvie Rhea Mae.

I truly don't believe that the author is anti-Peregrine.  He was there to watch the shorebirds.  When we went to Montezuma, we were looking for a young Peregrine named Jemison and were thrilled to see any Peregrines hunting.  happy

Interesting article Bobbie.  My opinion only, but it comes across as a frustrated bird watcher.  The Peregrine hunting that day (he posted pictures) was a juvenile.  He comments that the falcon was either not really trying to catch anything (in other words, just playing with the shorebirds and keeping them flying) or was a really, really, really bad hunter.  It was a young falcon learning to hunt and survive.

We heard many reports of hunting juvenile Peregrines at Montezuma recently.  Shorebirds are probably an easier bird to hunt & catch than a very fast and agile city Pigeon.

If you read the article, be sure to go through the comments.  There are some really good ones.

After seeing the Falcon at KP yesterday afternoon, I was curious if I would be able to see the blue building and stacks from Kodak Office.  I went up to the 9th floor Cafeteria in the building just north of the Kodak Tower to get some coffee.  From the north facing windows, I can easily see the blue building and the two smoke stacks off in the distance.

If I can see it, you can be sure that Mariah and Kaver would have easily seen any Falcon activity at KP.  Just found that to be interesting.

Have a nice day everyone.

WanderingFalcon (Carol P.): Adult pefa was sitting on the Ashley Furniture roof on Fetzner in Greece. Took off heading west!

So sorry to say it wasn't Mariah.   Sad

On the way home, I drove over to KP for a quick look.  No Falcons, so I headed up Latona towards home.  As I approached the intersection of Latona and Ridge Rd W., I spotted a Red-tail Hawk flying over the Marriott on the other side of the road.  S/he flew towards me and landed on top of a Evergreen in the small cemetery (Falls Cemetery) on my left.  I was happy to be stopped at a red light, so I had time to watch the RTH for a little bit.  The light turned green and I crossed over Ridge Rd to Fetzner.

On the NW corner of the intersection is a small plaza with a Ashley Furniture store behind it.  The roof of this store is usually covered with pigeons, lined up like a Peregrine Buffet.  I always look and yesterday, instead of the usual line-up, there was a large bird sitting at the end of the roof line.  I turned left down the next street and was able to see the bird through the trees.  It was a Peregrine!  WooHoo!

I quickly made my way back to the Ashley parking lot.  What a beautiful bird.  She was definitely an adult and very large, definitely a female.  I got my camera out and took a few pics before she spread her wings and headed west, chasing a couple pigeons.  I drove in that direction but was unable to find her.

I checked my pictures last night and I'm sure it was not Mariah.  The lighting was poor, but I could see a hint of red on the band.  This may have been our KP female.

We'll keep watching!

After posting that I wanted these but didn't use Paypal, I looked and I own all of the ones that are being offered.  Will Lou, by any chance, be offering new ones like ones of our new Falcon family anytime soon?  (Hint-hint)

Well, maybe, if you're all very good.   Wink
