I believe she is.   heart

I was just scrolling through all these pages in this thread. I confess, I have not been following the falcons this year (looking for employment takes most of my time). I knew Kaver didn't show up last year and that Mariah was forced to move. I had often wondered what became of Mariah and I guess everyone else is wondering too. For 1 majestic raptor to evoke so much emotion in people is truly amazing. Sometimes I wonder about us humans, but then I check this forum and realize there are still people who care.

I agree - wherever Mariah is I hope she is happy!

Freedom (M&K's first son) nested there for quite a few years with two different mates and didn't have any problems as far as I know.  In fact, as we all know, Archer was born/raised at that nest site.  So, whatever is going on now?  Who knows.  Very sad though.  Hope this last egg hatches successfully.

I'm going out on a limb here but given he saw the female eating the egg...it begs the question if there isn't an environmental issue going on here.  We've had so many different male/female combinations here and almost always the same result - eggs that aren't viable/destroyed/vanished.  I am beginning to wonder if the mill isn't spewing some nasty chemicals that is affecting the viability of the eggs themselves?

If it was the same pair or say the same male or female throughout the years - you could question the fertility of one of the pair or both but every year we see either a new male or new female or both.  We've had some hatches but year after year we keep reading about destroyed/missing eggs so for sure something un-natural is going on.

The only other alternative is that someone at the Mill itself is harassing the falcons and stressing them out so much that they are destroying their own eggs.  Either way it's time the MNR stepped in and did some real investigating - given that this is still a protected species.

During the last exchange, I could see a tiny beak moving around inside the egg and when Beauty stepped over the eggs, she went beak to beak with the little one.   wub2
