Well, as you saw from my tweet, we saw Mariah at St Ann's today.  First I checked downtown.  I scoured the area and had no luck finding a falcon.  Although we've had recent sightings of a falcon assumed to be Beauty over the past few days.  Jim P had a falcon on the communication tower on Thursday.  Brian H had one on the communication tower Friday afternoon, he thought Beauty.  Joyce had Beauty on old Changing Scene's this afternoon.  I have to start wondering if MAYBE Archer has left the area. 

I even checked the old bldg to the south of the city that Beauty used to hang out at with no luck.  Although I did see some juvenile delinquent Crows inside an enclosed bus stop tossing garbage all over the place out of a garbage pail.     While I was sitting there, I was sure I could hear the Halloween Theme music playing in the background.  Where was Michael Myers!   

OK, time to head for St Ann's and Medley Mall.  I was sitting on the north side of the square St. Ann's when the pigeons took off.  I watched them swerve here and there and then, MARIAH!  WooHoo!  The Queen was in full chase mode.  She chased a few of them over the woods where I lost sight of them, heading towards the Medley Center.

I waited for awhile, but she didn't return.  So, I decided to head over to the mall.  She wasn't there, but I did spot fellow Watcher Dan S.  He was just leaving, so I followed him back to St Ann's.  We found Mariah on an antenna at the top of the circular St Ann's (which by the way is not coming down for a couple of years).  She stooped to the south and flew back and forth over Rochester General Hospital. We lost sight of her, so we weren't sure if her hunt was successful.

Did I mention it was raining the whole time?  and very, very windy.  Lots of leaves blowing everywhere.

Kathy O joined us and we went back over to the mall.  After about a 1/2 hour, Dan said his goodbyes and Kathy and I returned to St. Ann's, back on the north side.

Mariah was back.  She was imitating a kite so well, just floating above the square St. Ann's bldg.  How does she do that!!!  It's as if she isn't moving a muscle, just hanging on the wind.  The pigeons weren't happy and all took flight.  Mariah didn't seem interested, so we can only assume that she had been successfull on her earlier hunt.   

She gracefully floated off towards the north.  Kathy and I waited for her to return, but she didn't.

We discovered an old cemetery near the parking lot.  It was the Hooker Cemetery.  It was an old pioneer cemetery with markers from the mid-1800's.  Kathy and I decided to check it out.  Was there a better way to end our Halloween Falcon Watch?

Donna - Don't pay attention to Shaky.  He's had a poutine overdose and isn't himself.  

Yes, I did see some of the filming a couple of years ago in the gorge below the pedestrian bridge.  It was a scene where I believe the murderer was being killed and fell onto a big poofy thing to break his fall.  Eliza Dushku was there.  It was a very cold day!

It's called Alphabet Killer. I just added it to my Netflix Instant Play queue.

Shaky, sorry,    you are correct....I was looking online after the movie and saw Alphabet Murders and wrote that...my mistake. Hmmm, I'll have to watch it again, maybe I missed Carol and Kathy. (CAMEOS)??

Will they allow a nest box, either there or at St. Anns? (Just in case)  

The Mall wouldn't be a good spot for a next box.  It's too low.  Not sure if St Ann's would allow one or not.  For now, I think we need to get a better idea of where Mariah is hanging out.

Dot - Yes, we've notified the DEC about Mariah and they were very happy to hear that she was doing well.  The Medley Center is just about empty except for two stores, Macy's and Sears, one at each end.  There are Pigeons and Gulls all over the mall and around it.  I don't think a little more poop art will even be noticed.   

I think someone posted that the DEC had been notified of Mariah being found at the Medley mall. Does anyone know if the DEC will get in contact with the mall personnel, so that they don't chase Mariah off their glass tower, or hurt her in any way? I wouldn't think they'd be too pleased with poop art all over the glass dome or partly-eaten prey remnants on their roof. Yes, I probably worry too much but would feel better if I knew they were aware of Mariah's presence and her status as a protected raptor.

We really don't know for sure Donna.  A&B sightings have been far and few between.

Quick update from today (Sunday, 10/25/09). 

Dana spotted Mariah on the peaked glass roof of the Medley Center this moring on her way to work at about 7:00 am.

At 10 am, I was sitting in the parking lot on the north side of the Medley Ctr.  Mariah flew in from the west, over me heading east.

Lots of Watchers were out again today, plus many that couldn't make it yesterday.  No Mariah sightings after the 10 am flyover.  Lots of Red-tail Hawks were soaring over us.  Up to three at a time.

I don't know how it is in Holland, but aphids and Ladybugs go hand-in-hand here in Maryland.  My monster mum had as many Ladybugs as buds last year (no Ladybugs this year). 

No you didn't see them Janet because they are here today.....very warm, sunny and Ladybuggy. Usually in Oct I see lots of them and a strange bird  ???

The Ladybugs have been swarming here in Rochester yesterday and today.  Seems to happen every year about this time.  If they get inside, I escort them safely outside.
