I've never been as close to a proto-fledgling as the cams take me, and I keep wanting to sneeze.
I'm blown away when one preens and pulls her head out from under her wing with a HUGE clump of down stuck on her beak, and then just spaces out like that. Someone ought to shake them both off well, then find all the holes and busted seams and stitch them up before ALL the stuffing comes out! What a mess.

Your treat of a bird should be on the "rare bird alert" for...are you in Monroe County?  It may be someone's pet, but one never knows!  I LOVE the pics!!

Thanks everyone for your help. I have regular Goldfinch all year and they like the same seed as this new one so I guess he will be well fed. This is a Life Bird for Dave and I...it's exciting to have him in our yard.

The bird looks like a British Goldfinch to me.  Very cool.

I looked up this Bird and it sure looks like one to me. Don't know what it's doing in my area ( about 25 miles east of the nest box ) might be someone's pet Bird. I'll keep food  out for him. Hope he stays around.
