Cool! My local female hatched at Throgs Neck in 2004. Here she is, 11 years later.

It's reached the point where I expect to find them out of the box.

Two more pictures from yesterday by Ricardo, both of our female, sideways V/0.

For the first time in three seasons, the local peregrine pair has chicks! The male is unbanded (probably the same bird this year), and the female is our resident female since 2008. Black over red, V/0, both sideways, banded in NYC at the Throgs Neck Bridge on 5/17/2004 by Chris Nadareski. See my photo.

I've also posted Ricardo's picture of a food transfer. We have each seen them do this. After today's transfer, the female went in the box, presumable to feed chicks, and the male returned to guard duty. After about fifteen minutes, he left his lookout spot in a treetop on the Maryland side, crossed the Potomac to Virginia, and dove into the forest, flushing an osprey. He then made multiple attacks, at least one resulting in a hard hit that appeared to briefly stun the larger, rapidly fleeing raptor. The heightened state of alert, food transfers, and apparent feeding all point to chicks.

"...the eyas set off the alarm"
How was that managed? Was it sound-activated?

What a relief! I've followed Erin/Mandy and her previous mate, Windwhistler, for years.

Sad to hear that the famous Windwhistler is gone. On the other hand, he has been displaced before -- from his second territory , by Rhea Mae and Tiago, so perhaps he is still around, somewhere. Nearly seventeen years is a good run.

I was astonished by this wonderful picture of Dot.ca this morning.

Having just read Glenn Stewart's Eye to Eye with Eagles, Hawks, and Falcons, http://www.amazon.com/Eye-With-Eagles-Hawks-Falcons-ebook/dp/B00BT0Q7QQ, it really captured the essence of peregrine incubation for me.

I only met her once but remember how pleasant she was to chat with.
Rest in peace, Glo.

Thanks!
We love to visit the zoo, particularly when the herons are about. I like it that one of the best exhibits
 is voluntary and unofficial.

Nothing that I know of. He's scheduled to teach a class in Bellingham, WA in a few weeks and then go to Chile again.

"I can’t remember a time I was so proud of my birds. The flock that went from zeroes to heroes. The flock that brought us to the brink of insanity and despair all the way back to tears of joy." -- Geoff Tarbox, Crane Handler
