Wow! Great picture and I love natural falcon nest sites.

This is a really good video. It is not easy to film the nest -- the trees lining Central Park limit the sight lines. There's just one small spot that works.

Thanks!

I like the illustrations, too.

After 1,075 miles (1,730 km), the migration approaches the end. Lead pilot Brooke Pennypacker more than makes up for the lack of a good video link with his wonderful report:

Here's how I remember her.  What a bird!

No offspring, but still a falcon to be reckoned with.  Imagine looking out your office window to find this scene:

They are approaching their last stop before their destination, the St Marks Wildlife Refuge in Florida.
Unfortunately, the cell phone service is not sufficient for inflight video.

Great story and great photos, Dale!  Thanks!

the snowy YAWNING on the camera's screen is a terrific one, isn't it?
Yes -- it stands out even in an album of amazing pictures. We have snowys too, now but they like to move around within and between inaccessible areas.

The Snowy we had at Dulles Airport a few years ago did not seem to pose a significant threat to aircraft, as it did not move around much. It seemed to mostly be an ambush predator, springing into the air after low flying birds.

I think it is a Cooper's Hawk, based upon size.

Thanks for the great news! Let's hope things have been resolved and the days to come are peaceful ones.

Steven Sachs thinks it is 51/BC, based upon other photos he took.

For me, it was Ranger. Big smile -- check. Spring in my step -- check.
The best news was Alkyonis, who must have set a record for number of times found grounded and rescued. People talked about how she should have been considered non-releasable. Years later, she reappeared with a territory and a mate.
