We spend our summer vacation on Sandy Island in Lake Winnipesaukee, a small, wedge-shaped piece of land in a large lake in New Hampshire. This year, we were often awakened by the calls of Common Loons (Gavia immer). This is a goose-sized diving bird and is very characteristic of the Northern US and Canada. Calls include a laugh, a wail, and softer, more intimate sounds like those in this movie.
