Whoa! No one seems to say where this little guy came from - they are usually shy and retiring critters, so one would wonder. Are there pine martens in North America? I have only once caught a brief glimpse here.

Elf owl is the smallest, according to Google! Up to 31 grams. Pygmy is next!
