Don't know how to post a PDF, so I will just give the link to this, which is at the top of the link page.

I was out years ago on an island off Kerry - Puffin Island - and the "Stormies" came rocketing in after dark - what an experience! I even got to ring/band some... under supervision, of course!! Also had the privilege of meeting Manx Shearwaters - they make this ghostly cry as they are coming in. Ahhh, to be young again! I hated the heights, so I cooked. They loved me.

Good piece from the BBC website... as we all know, St Patrick "did for" Ireland's snakes, but this is so interesting.

Glad you enjoy them, check back often,Im always adding to both.
Owls are abit tough to stumble across, but I bank where Ive seen every one and always check. Sometimes you dumb luck one. Many of them use known roosts in the winter, favorite spots that are pretty well known so much easier to find. Despite an increasing reluctance from many birders to post exact locations of owls they see, they are shared among friends, increasing your chances.Having 2 pairs of Screech Owls in a park 10min from home is a good deal of help too!

Same thing here re sharing the locations of certain birds - mostly BoPs. Funny thing is, the evil-doers always seem to know too.

You know, I wonder if anything is going to put a stop to this. I think I am right in saying that the EU found against Malta for its hunting during migration seasons, and even fined them... which Malta simply ignored. Also, I think their president (or prime minister?) more or less told Europe to mind its own business.

Some people just don't get IT!!!

And I fear they never will.

Wow, cool pics MAK. What's Tory's story? Love the brick!

Can anyone get one of those bricks? We got one for Dad from the zoo a few years back and are always on the look-out for gifts for The Man Who Has Everything!

You can also purchase a sponsorship through their Adopt-a-Bird program for any wildlife there.  We bought one as a Christmas gift this year.  The recipient gets notification of the gift, a picture of the sponsored bird with its biography, an adoption certificate and a years subscription to their quarterly news.  A great gift also!

All great ideas, everyone. Thank you! Dad can't get out with me any more on our birding hikes, but he loves to know what's up.

Sure Bobbie, you can get one for dad, just go online or when your up, go and purchase (donation) one. You can get a single, double or triple play! It's the gift that keeps on giving all year round!

Thanks, Donna - I will go to the park and buy one. Dad would love it. And... did I thank you for that link to the (longish) birds in the garden video? Dad will really enjoy it, so thanks so much!

the race, oops, it was the last lap, I was just informed.
