While Malta shoots birds just to shoot them - or so it appears - Cyprus traps songbirds for sale as restaurant delicacies. This report is from the RSPB... the photo is not pretty.

Those buses have heads on-board.

What a relief!

Mine popped already!!

Sounds like the Bible with all those "begats"...

Amen to that, sister!

And the Lord said:

"Let there be Peregrine Falcons."

And She saw that it was good.

When we emailed over the weekend, MAK said she and Sue should be in not long after 12-noon your time today... how's it looking??

They were suppose to have a 5 hour layover in St. Louis but it didn't happen. They will be in Rochester by 6pm.

Hope she doesn't get caught up in all that snow!

And so say all of us!

Bless! Wouldn't you wonder why creatures take the liberty to do something so contrary to all expectations?

Just thought... the pix from Bob Marcotte's latest blog are super for Red-Tailed Hawk ID - here's the link again. That belly-band that Ei mentions is quite clear.

LOOKS WHO’S VISITING ME – Downtown Jersey City resident Kadee Shipman and her son found this Peregrine falcon hanging out in their backyard recently.

Pic is small but...is it a falcon??

Wish I had had time to grab a camera when I saw the Northern Harrier at my sister's place last autumn... then the pros could have confirmed my ID. Anyone know anything about them? I am pretty sure it was the harrier, due to the white rump. Tho I was surprised to see it in a suburban neighbourhood, ie Browncroft, if anyone knows it...

Had not checked Bob Marcotte for a while, so was pleased to discover some good new pieces - and pix too! Have a look. I esp liked the RT Hawks and the owl in its hidey-hole...

(Spell-check says "hidey-hole" should be "hellhole". Love this stuff!)

Thanks for posting that, Donna. I had seen it but could I get the link to work?? What is there about anglers and their lines! I know a number of fisher-folk and they would never dream of leaving things about. Yet it seems that some just could not care less, often leaving our wildlife to a dreadful fate. This wee owl, I fear, was one of the lucky ones.
