"dawn-welcoming fowl language." very nice.

There is a fresh poultry place in my part of town, REAL fresh - you choose the bird from a cage and they take care of the rest. A friend once naively "rescued" a lovely "hen" from there, bought it - took it home as a pet. The next morning "the hen" surprised my friend (and the rest of the apt. building) by crowing like mad at daybreak. "She" also, just for the record, had flown up and was standing IN a (cold) frying pan on the stove while doing so!  That relationship, nevertheless, did not last long.

Just occurs to me... was "she" playing a game of "Chicken"?!

Absolutely, Annette! DO NOT OPEN THAT!!! Consign it to the Trash with all haste! It came in as Junk, right? Even things that look bona-fide are just plain rubbish. I think I have received this message recently too. And we keep getting some purportedly from our phone company - NOT! - telling us to update our data... I think I am right in saying that the true bank, phone company etc. would never send such an email. I am not savvy about much when it comes to the web, but I have learned to recognise this type of thing. So - better safe than sorry, Girlfriend! Dump it!!

(Also... check the English: Webmail is sometimes "webmail" and sometimes "Webmail". Also, it says "...your webmail will be disable" instead of "disabled". And "click the below link" - not "the link below". Dubious use of the language is always a giveaway!)

WOW! Hummingbird Hawk Moth.  thumbsup

Squacco Heron: Never heard of either Bobbie. Thanks.

I would love to put up feeders during Spring and Summer but with the Cats here, I don't dare. Winter is when I do the feeders as the cats do not go in my backyard then. Not sure if they can catch a Hummer though....what think?

Aren't both the moth and the heron just great?! Ooops re the cats and the feeders, Donna. A wise decision... better to have no feeders than to wonder whether you are doing more harm than good. Doubt any cat could catch a hummingbird, but then...

This is especially good because it allows a universal industry accepted methodology across several different message vehicles.

 Shocked   clap

Huh??

Yeah that too Bobbie!  ???

Anyway - I actually "liked" Karma!

Facebook, for one (sorry, I went into geek mode) - FB used use "Fan" to "Like" - it was very confusing.  Now, you just like the "like" link when you like it or want to follow it or connect to it.

I loved the Geek Mode, Janet - ooops - or should I say... I LIKED it! (I'll get the hang of this...)

paperbag  I am so sorry to have not replied sooner to all your well wishes!  I have had a busy week!  It was a really good birthday, got in some pool time, and had dinner at Red Lobster and home to Turtle Cheesecake!  thumbsup  Won't be getting on the scales for a while! paperbag
Thank you again for the sweet wishes.

Never sorry, as long as you had a good time.

... Was that cheesecake made of real turtles???

I am in Northen Indiana and have  a whole lot of the ruby throated at my 3 feeders!  They are incredible to watch!  I don't understand how people get more than one or two to feed at the same feeder at the same time!  bow  I fill these feeders almost daily!  Neighbors say they don't get but maybe one or two since they all hang out at my house!  We will be spending time in Southern Florida this winter and am hoping to attract them at our location there.  Love watching and feeding these busy little ones.  Got that from my parents!  2thumbsup

Yay for you, I have never seen a Hummingbird but I'm sure it's a thrill. Thanks.

Donna, if anyone deserves a hummingbird, you do! Come Spring, let's talk about putting up feeders - my one sister has terrific luck with getting ruby-throats to visit if she makes sure her feeder is up before May 1st, all set for their arrival. (Hard to believe that these tiny things actually migrate!) I will check with her to see what she uses - ie type of feeder, contents. We'll get you there!

BTW - there have been sightings here of what people insisted were hummingbirds. These sightings were in fact of Hummingbird Hawk Moths - quite amazing critters, and no wonder people thought they were hummingbirds. As far as I know, no actual hummingbirds have ever made it onto the Irish List of Rarities! (We do have quite an impressive list tho... I think my fave has to be the Squacco Heron...)

Bless them all! How can we possibly acknowledge their spirit and sacrifice... no matter what our attitudes towards these wars? Bring them - and us - peace.

I'll try anything ONCE, (within reason), I even had Frog legs, (which I can't remember), too much Boone's Farm Apple Wine.  dead

Donna!  Shame on you for admitting that you actually drank that swill  scared blue  devil  Frog Legs are on the menu at most German establishments here.  I always think of Kermit in the wheelchair from the Muppets Movie dream  laugh  They really do taste like chicken.

I'm with you on this, Janet! Donna! WHAT are you thinking with Boone's Farm??? Great big "ICK"! Since you "never leave home" (haha!), get yourself a good book about The Wines of the World to entertain you in your idle moments... I would rather eat a swampful of frogs... with Brussels sprouts!... than drink that! Eeeeeeee-uuuuuu!

Waiter! Send the sommelier to her table, please...

I'll Pay!  Get her a nice 2007 Cab Franc from Northern VA (wonderful vintage year)!  And Donna!  Shame on you!  17-years old!  18 in NJ AND NY back then.  Ok, I'll fess up - me, too - Bitter End, GWL, NY (since gone the way of the buffalo  Sad  ), but I drank those sweet mix things - sloe-gin fizzes - yuk!   scared blue

That's it! The sloe-gin fizz! I had forgotten! My friend and I out in Pittsford... me with no (legal) ID - but I had her sister's - and my first drink was the famous sloe-gin fizz! Did everyone order this??? (How we got from picky eaters to Guinness and the Sloe-Gin Fizz, I do not know...)

Slainte all round!!!

Well C'mon, I was only 17 and that was the drink of choice back then and of course Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill....(yummy). I don't drink wine now....I'll take the old fashioned "Beer" and check this out Bobbie, I like "Guinness" and a nice German beer.

Slainte  wave  2funny

Haha, Donna, You got me... again! At 17, the beverage of choice is always a tad dubious. And since you mention Ireland's National Beverage, you (and others?) may be interested to hear that 23 September is Arthur's Day... Here's some info...

"All around the world, starting at 17.59 on September 23rd 2010 we're once again celebrating the remarkable life and legacy of Arthur Guinness - and we'd love you to join us!
Building on the success of last year's inaugural global celebration, Arthur's Day is back, with a series of remarkable celebrations and live music events taking place around the world.
Here in Ireland celebrations will now be national in scale, with amazing artists and acts performing at events in Cork, Galway and Dublin, along with 100's of bands playing in pubs throughout Ireland for 10's of thousands of you. We'll be looking for your participation as your vote will help decide which bands progress to the regional showcases and final.
Everyone* can be part of this unique worldwide celebration wherever they are. We've recruited hundreds of bands to take part in Our Thursdays, an exciting showcase for bands to win the chance to actually perform on Arthur's Day. If you're simply up for being part of a truly remarkable celebration, then look out for tickets going on sale for the shows and make sure wherever you are, you raise a GUINNESSĀ® to Arthur on Thursday 23rd September and help us make Arthur's Day 2010 another day to remember!"
