Hi AnneC!!
I love to read your message! What a great tribute!
I`m trying to introduce my mother to the internet, and will use your experience... Till now she is refusing even to acccept a computer... But I won`t give up! She is 84 years old

Oh my goodness, Mirta! PATAGONIA??? Imagine!  wave How did you find the forum?

Has anyone (Shaky?) ever got a map of the world and stuck in a pin for each of the Forum posters? That would be fun - but I predict straight away that Mirta would win the Faraway Prize! (...just as Donna wins the Queen of the Forum Prize! clap)

Good luck with getting your Mom to appreciate the wonders of the web... once she gets started, you may have to restrict her online-time - haha!

Slainte!

Ditto what you said for me, Donna - and as Joyce helped you, you returned the favour and mentored me! Thanks for that! (Now they can't get rid of us, huh?!)

Captain Video and His Video Rangers was an American science fiction television series. It was broadcast on the DuMont Television Network, and was the first series of its kind on American television. It aired between June 27, 1949 and April 1, 1955.

Anne, what a lovely tribute to your Dad! And after your own annus horribilus, it was particularly poignant. Good for him, still "googling" at 94! With my own lovely Dad about to hit 92, I share your thoughts. May your Dad, and the others you so recently lost, rest in peace.

I've never heard of many of these shows and didn't watch Dark Shadows but I loved the Howdy Doody Show!  clap  Loved Buffalo Bob!  Whoops-I think that was in the 50's!

I used to pointedly leave the room when Howdy Doody came on, and my sisters glued themselved to the TV.  sick

I always thought those puppets were kinda creepy myself, so I am with you, Carol! STILL... I did love their names... Dilly-Dally, Flub-a-Dub, Princess Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring... right?

Creepy  ???  I thought they were cute!  I had dimensional paper dolls of all of them that I and my friends would play with for hours! Loved the names and Clarabelle was also a favorite of mine. I guess we all have our own opinions.

Clarabelle! Yes! I just checked, and he was played by Bob Keeshan - Captain Kangaroo! (Sorry about the "creepy"...)

OK - since we are stumbling down Memory Lane... who remembers "Zoo Parade" and Marlin Perkins?? And then there was that AWFUL series "The American Sportsman" where "stars" like Clint Walker (remember "Cheyenne"?) went out to SHOOT things??? Can you believe we actually watched this???

You know, there was a remake of Dark Shadows that I fell across not long ago while channel-hopping (and therefore still  needing something productive to occupy my mind...). Truly, there was! I knew what it was immediately, but it disappeared. Probably for the best - how could they have improved on perfection??? Haha!

We watched that show too Bobbie, it was back in 1991. Was on for 1 season and disappeared. Was called "Dark Shadows" with Ben Cross and Joanna Going. We actually liked that show. Then the War began, "Desert Storm" and all eyes were glued to that and not Dark Shadows. Even though it received good ratings, they decided not to bring it back.

(If that's the one your talking about).  wave

Nooooo! Really?? You saw this one too, Donna? We ARE "kindred"! bow

WAS it Joan Bennet in the original? And what was the guy's name who was always in the crypt with Barnabas? Willie something? I must google that piece of music... cannot hear it in my head, and I am pretty good at that sort of thing... remind me to tell you sometime about my knowledge of 1960s cowboy series themes... Hmmmm... hyper

... and I always hold out the hope that reintroduction to the wild might be possible... some day... somewhere. Who can say? I sure can't...

Many species, whose numbers in the wild have been decimated by various factors, are being kept from extinction by captive breeding programs.  Even Peregrine Falcons...

So true, Carol, so true! Still... such articles always make me wonder... And since there is so little I can do except advocate where possible, I must trust to those who know better than I to do the right things. Have you ever (and this is "BTW"...) found yourself watching a wildlife documentary, and things seem to be going well... only to get to the end and hear the "But..."? At which point, I turn off, as I know what's coming is going to break my heart... and there is so little I can do!

So sad about the panda. But when I read the piece again, I got to wondering about the statement re being bred for a life of captivity. I just don't know! What are we to do? Damned when we intervene... damned when we don't. I have no idea about the conditions in which these iconic creatures live in captivity. And goodness knows there were many years when I would not go near a zoo, so heartbreaking were they... both in ROC and in Dublin... does anyone remember those sad polar bears at Seneca Park? And in Dublin, this lone, solitary Asian elephant - I could no longer look at any of them, so stopped going. Things in both places have certainly improved since then... and I always hold out the hope that reintroduction to the wild might be possible... some day... somewhere. Who can say? I sure can't...

Callidora just stooped on a pigeon and missed. C'mon girl, catch that food. Where are A & B when you need them? (MAK). Carol and Dana out looking for A & B. Mak just left.

Maybe the Kings of Leon should hire them...
