What does everyone think? A third egg today?? When I saw Beauty in the nestbox early this morning, I thought we might be in luck... but there is no one home right now... except two shiny little eggs...

May 12 for Helga Jean!
Still didn't say if there's a story behind the name Helga Jean...inquiring minds and all that... Ok - the story behind the name.... Over the years when friends were preggers, I'd call the baby Heartbeat or some such name. With many more people finding out the sex of the baby long before birth, many now name the baby. I like that. So, for those that don't know the sex or haven't picked out a name, I make one up and call the baby that name until birth. Generally, it is something the parents would never pick. Helga is a nice strong-sounding Germanic name and Jean just flows nicely with it. BTW, a friend is VERY pregnant, having a girl, hasn't picked a name, so I always call the baby Helga Jean. It's a good name!
To answer how I will know which egg is Helga Jean - that will be the PUSHY One All the soon-to-be babies in our clan are always called Peanut. We need to get more creative!

Morning, Donna! Boy, do you folks ever get up early over there! At this hour in Ireland, I am having a nice, toasty roll-over and lamenting the rising sounds of the Dawn Chorus - those birds have no manners!!! Have a good one, everyone - another egg maybe??? EGG-cellent! (I will stop this soon...)
Good afternoon Bobbie..I'm always up early and the birds here are just starting their morning rituals..it's a great sound. Having my coffee and waiting for B to lay her 3rd E, (which I thought would be a surprise when I woke up). Have a great day...oh and hows the new windows? I can always count on you, Donna! My aim, one of these days, is to be the Day's First Poster in the Forum. Alas, someone on the other side of the Pond is always up late and beats me to it. You reckon we will see another egg today? Sure hope B&A don't go (much?) beyond that... we want them to earn their wings on this first pairing, I would guess. Tho Archer does seem to be an excellent provider. I always view the entire process with awe. How lucky are we to be in their presence... and so intimately involved... little do they know!! They will on Banding Day, of course... which I assume will still take place, as in the Old Days...

Yes, such as did we approach them or did they ask us... was it an Eagle scout project. Sorry if I missed an earlier explanation. I'm just curious, and glad to see the "BSA" mark.
Helen P.
Me too, Helen! I would love to know the origin/story of the nestbox... do tell, someone! Wonderful to have the next generation involved.

Is Baerbel still around?
She sure is and she is one of the MODS!Yes, I'm still "around" but don't have much time to actually post much or read everything. For one, I'm spending quite some time watching our pair of peregrines regularly (we recently named them Freya and Lorenzo) and I'm quite heavily involved with climate change discussions and activities via the internet like for example helping with translations into German of all the Arguments found here: SkepticalScience.com On top of that I'm still volunteering at the Wilhelma (Stuttgart's zoo) and maintaining our local conservation group's homepage. So much to do, so little time! Cheers from Fellbach, Germany Baerbel Morning, Baerbel! You ARE a busy girl! Looking forward to checking those websites you mention. Best! Bobbie

2 eggs - how exciting!! If things keep going so well, it won't be too awful long before the lovely new nestbox is "decorated" with poop-art, courtesy of the eyases BTW, did a Boy Scouts troop make the new nestbox? That's a very cool thing if so. Helen P. Helen P., I was also thinking that re the nestbox. The marking on the box is so clear in today's sunlight, and to think these young lads have made this a project is splendid. Perhaps someone could give us further details...

"Oh frabjous day! Callooo! Callaaay!!!"
"Our" first Swallow of the season just went swooping over this Wicklow garden! Spotted by Rod (the Irish husband and the reason I no longer live in ROC). I, meanwhile, am alternately cleaning and lurking... Gotta say that "lurk" is better. And thanks, Donna, for news of Baerbel. Plus I loved the silhouette post... great catch.
