But one expert said he can't discount weather as a cause. "Thousands of birds encountered something, whether it was a lighting strike or hail or something, and that caused the trauma and death," said Robert Meese, an avian ecologist at the University of California-Davis. "I don't see any way that they could have flown into obstructions, because then the birds should have been at the base of the objects. ... This was a scattering."
That's a real coincident, that Kerwins friend is studying at that university. I will ask Kerwin if he ask her if she knows anything from this strange situation. greetings Aafke

Who knows this bird? A friend of Kerwin visit the US and came home with this picture. She asked Kerwin if he knew this bird and he asked me if I knew this bird. I said it's a Blue Jay, but he wasn't satisfied with my answer. He said the Blue Jay hasn't such white feathers on his breast. So now I ask you, who knows this bird? greetings Aafke

Yes a real cool video, thanks Donna. Good news Bobbi that the Bittern is coming back in Ireland, I hope it's not only for the cold weather. Things are strange with this weather. Yesterday My son saw a Bittern in Amsterdam. He said it was very cool to see him but I think the Bittern will have a difficult time. I'm doing the best I can with feeding the birds. greetings Aafke

My "R" is... RAT-on-my-peanut-feeder! Eeeeeeee-uuuuuuu and BIG ICK! Does this make it a bird? What's the thing from Philosophy class? Some birds feed on peanut feeders. A rat is on my peanut feeder. Therefore, this rat is a bird. Hmmm Bobbie, a rat is a bird? But I understand what you mean, I have one too, a rat that behavous like a bird. greetings Aafke

Y is for Yellowlegs, the Lesser one
There are a lot of birds starting with yellow! I choose the Lesser Yellowlegs, because I have seen one. It was a lost bird from I suppose the US. It was very sensational for me and lots of other people to see him. The Lesser Yellowlegs is a shorebird. Here are 2 pictures from the internet.

X is for Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus
I never heard of this bird before but I found him in my Petersond birdbook. The Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus or Yellow-headed Blackbird is a medium-sized blackbird. Adults have a pointed bill. The adult male is mainly black with a yellow head and breast; they have a white wing patch sometimes only visible in flight. The adult female is mainly brown with a dull yellow throat and breast.

The X is a difficult letter but now I have (for the first time) the opportunity to start a letter. greetings Aafke
