G is for Glacous Gull
The Glacous Gull is for us a rare kind of Gull.
Wikipedia:This is a large and powerful gull, very pale in all plumages, with no black in the wings or tail. The term glaucous describes its colouration. Adults are pale grey above, with a thick yellow bill.
We were very lucky to spot him on my birthday in 2009. It's funny but I saw a lot of rare birds on my birthdays. greetings Aafke

E is for Eider I really love these Ducks. They make an amazing sound (look at Dales post) When you are on Texel and you make a walk on the beach you can see and hear them. In Spring there are lots of babies and when you make a night walk on the beach the sound is awesome, you have to go there and hear it for yourself. Btw I think it's very difficult to take a picture from a bird in the sea. greetings Aafke

E is for Eurasian Kestrel
This Kestrel is a bird of prey and it belongs to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae. It is one of the most common raptors in Europe. pict 1 - This Kestrel gave me a long time to take his picture. pict 2 - it's a very old picture, it was hard to find him, but it shows baby Kestrels in a nestbox. It was funny to see them sitting, the smallest at the left and the biggest at the right. One week later they had left the nestbox. greetings Aafke

Annie very nice, I also choose for the C is for Crane
A few years ago we travelled to Sweden to see the Cranes. In the first week we saw one Crane, in the second week we saw 5 Cranes. A few years later we visit Sweden again, but now we drove more to the north. We saw different groups of Cranes. But the most special thing was that we hired a house and sitting on the porch we could see a few Cranes. They came every day, it was sensational. greetings Aafke

B is for Bewick's Swan
The Bewickâs swan is the smallest swan in Europe. It is named after the illustrator Thomas Bewick who died in 1828 and made many fine drawings of this species during his lifetime. I really like these beautiful birds. They are only during the winter in our country, mostly in January and February. In these months we always go out looking for them. You can find them on empty patato fields. Bewickâs swan breeds in the Arctic tundra across northern Russia. Greetings Aafke

Hey guys, we seem to have gotten a day ahead of Aafke's proposed schedule, in which she suggested two days per letter. Is the consensus that one day is enough...or should we try to get back to her schedule? Here was Aafke's schedule:
For Monday, November first and Tuesday, November second we have the letter A For Wednesday, November third and Thursday, November fourth , we have the letter B For Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6, we have the letter C For Sunday and Monday, November 7 and 8, we have the letter D.
I wanted to see how this schedule was working. For me it would be nice to have 2 days for one letter, I'm spending a lot of time with the translations of the birdnames. But when I'm the only one we can do it different.
I think you all are doing a great job, great pictures, great information about interesting birds. But we can use more!!!
greetings Aafke
