Pictures are few and far between now, but the twitter reports make me feel like I am listening to one of the World Cup matches.  Fun times this year.  Get well wishes for Nor'e

Go, Barb!  Don't feel bad about very few watchers.  I did Jersey City solo for 9 days.

Ivy, The Shady Lady, fledged for real this morning.  She took a nice flight around the top of the building.  One adult was right beside her.

She has really not ventured far at all.  I consider her 'half-fledged.'  She has only been on the scrape level wherever there is shade.  I haven't seen a strong flight off the building yet.

If you can hear, that's terrific news. Thank you.  She is probably on one of the lower terraces.

And I missed it:

From Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey Facebook page:

79/AN (also known as Ivy) fledged today from 101 Hudson Street in Jersey City at 3:34pm!! Kathy Clark, ENSP watched her lean forward and take her first flight via the Falcon Cam. She was followed by one of the adults as she left the safety of the ledge. Hopefully we'll see her visit the nestbox on the roof sometime soon!

Our Shady Lady is resisting attempts to get her to fly.  The parents want her to fly very much.  They made passes in front of her and above her this morning.  She flapped and flapped.  I thought for sure she would fledge when I left Jersey City.  Been watching her on the cam and she sure is noisy.  She is definitely finding the shade.

We named her Kat. Jim Verhagen named her Ivy. So I call her Ivy Kat.

All by myself,
Don't wanna be, all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live, all by myself anymore

That's how I felt on fledge watch today.  Thank goodness our girl has her parents quite close. She still has a bit down on her head, but she will be flying very soon.  The important buildings have been alerted that she will be flying soon.

She was very content in the shade and wind today.
177  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: How does any eyas survive living in that disgusting nest?? on: 12-Jun-14, 10:45:46 AM
I have chicks in a nestbox right now and they are getting bigger and bigger every day.  The parents push all the gunk to the corners.  When they were little I think the adults took out the poop.  I suspect, though, that the poop acts as moisturizer for my clutch.  It gets hot in the box and the moisture tends to make it a bit cooler.  I clean the box every day now, but the adults get very mad at me.  There doesn't seem to be anything that's harmful to the chicks/eyases.

Some natural scrapes are back under ledges where they would probably be cleaned after fledging by other hawks or vultures.

Every web cam site bands differently.  I think more often than not, it is just a very small group or only the bander.  In the case of upstate NY, isn't your DEC person relatively new?  I'm still waiting for Ben's GoPro video of the Jersey City banding.  But I also know there is a lot of banding going on right now and usually only one person may be doing it for a whole state.
