I found the pigeon buffet right next to the courthouse. And I found the loathsome canal right next to the tower. The photos show the cemetery and church steeple west of their scrape. Amtrak passes on the east side. North and south of the scrape are low buildings that are perfect for fledglings to hone their skills. I would think an aerial view resembles Rochester.

I got down to Elizabeth, NJ today. At first I thought I saw two juvies flying three blocks north of the courthouse tower, but when looking at my photos, it was Cadence and Allan. I did not see any of the youngsters, but I thought I heard them to the west of the tower after Allan went into a stoop in that direction much later. Of course it was nap time (11:00-1:00). I did get more of a chance to check out the territory and finally found the roof of the garage right next to the tower. It has a perfect 360 degree view from 8 floors up but no shade. Cadence flew onto the antenna about 5 minutes after I arrived and saw the pair kiting above me. About a half hour later Allan flew to the other antenna. They remained perched there for about 45 min when Cadence went into a stoop to the east and crossed my path while I was driving around the courthouse (naturally). Allan then left to east and apparently awakened the kids. Cadence then flew off to the north right over my head as I was on the parking garage roof but I couldn't get her in focus. I'm posting the photos I have of the pair and the surrounding area.

From the Union County Courthouse Falcon News
A pair first attempted to build a nest on the roof of the County Courthouse in 2005, but windy conditions were an obstacle. In 2006 County workers installed a repurposed dog house to provide a wind shield, acting on the guidance of wildlife experts with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Every year until 2015, the same nesting pair has raised chicks in the doghouse since then.

I'm trying very hard to post photos, but I can't seem to get under the 1024 kb allowed. Hope this one goes through. Of course, the cam photos are FAR superior. You just get to see what she does off cam. And OF COURSE she remembered me from three years ago and through the rain and fog from 3 blocks away! LOL I'll be down again when I can get photos of the pre-fledglets. Parking is very tough.

Got down there today, in the rain, and fog, but Cadence and her mate (Dad, Allen, whomever) was with her on top of the antennas on top of the building. We could see the igloo and new, artificial turf, perches. Can't see the eyases, yet, but soon. It is a lot like Times Square. The fledglets won't have far to go when they take that giant leap. Photos coming.

Saw one adult snoozing on top of the scrape. Lots of helicopters flying around for the Memorial Day weekend. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is right below the scrape and is a prime landing spot for first time falcon flyers. I don't think this group is ready, yet, though.
