Waiting for Eggs

Neander removed the last food cache item from the base of main cam at 2:20 am. I do have to wonder if he was leaving it there because the intruder was stealing his other caches?

Food cache at base of main cam. That's a first.

Neander took one of his caches at 6:24 pm.

Dana compiled Rfalconcam video from early this morning.  There was a lot of activity at the nest box. Nova was on top of main cam a lot and she and Neander mated multiple times. Eggs soon?

We absolutely LOVE to hear about past young from the Rochester nest site. Our friends at the Utica Peregrine Falcon Project posted pictures on their FB page on Friday (3/8/24). Rochester Falcon Watcher Dana shared the pictures with our watcher group, including an enlargement of the intruding female's band. We all agreed, Black 86 over [...]

The Falcons are Back to an All-night Schedule & Friday?s Intruder Has a Name!
Update for Saturday, March 9, 2024
At least Ares stayed up all night, perhaps trying to curry favor with his mate of 12 years after his short fling with a highly attractive intruder. All kidding aside, Ares brought prey to the nest box 3 times before 6:30 this morning. Ares provided several food gifts to Astrid, some which she took from him directly, others which she drew from his pantry ledges on the State Building. The falcons conducted two ledge displays at the box and they mated about ten times. They continue to guard the box almost constantly, which we believe is a reflection of the recent intruder pressure. Speaking of intruders, yesterday's banded adult female has been identified. Her name is ?Lilac? and she had been banded as a chick in the Rochester nest back in 2016. Her parents were Rochester?s ?Beauty? and ?Dot.ca?. Lilac is now 8 years old. Thank you to Carol and Dana from the Rochester Peregrine Falcon group for this great information. Also thank you to Pat Carey for sending us a couple of pictures of Lilac from 2016. We appreciate it.

It was about this time that Nova and Neander copulated on top of main camera.  The rain ruined any pictures we might have seen. Dana captured video from our live stream. It has been posted on Twitter aka X.

At 8:38 am, Neander, on the nest box platform, brought in food for Nova, who was inside the nest box. In the 2nd picture, you can see the intruder unbanded female flying towards the nest box. She swoops over Neander. He grabbed the food and took off with the food. The intruder continued on. Nova was very upset, still inside the nest box. The video that Dana compiled was included this. You can actually see all 3 falcons in the 2nd picture.
