Descriptions:

Chup is the mating call of the tiercel that sounds a little like a "chup" noise, and also in the book "Frightful's Mountain" the male peregrine is called Chup.

Dionysus was one of the 12 main Greek Gods. He was also the god of fertility which is important to nature.

Einstein is for Albert Einstein, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist who was fond of early morning trips to go bird-watching, according to Einsteein's personal chauffeur, Stanley Cohen, in his book titled "My Time with Einstein."

Frederick for our famous resident Frederick Douglass who fought for civil rights and freedom for all!

Gawain means uncertain, from the Latin form Walganus used by the 12th-century chronicler Geoffrey of Monmouth. This was the name of a nephew of King Arthur and one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legend. He can be identified with the earlier Welsh hero Gwalchmei, and it is likely that the name derives from GWALCHMEI. Alternatively it may have a different Celtic or even a Germanic origin. Gawain was a popular hero in medieval stories such as the 14th-century romantic poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight."

Lorcan is an Irish name meaning little and/or fierce.

Meng is for Heinz Meng, largely responsible for the recovery of the peregrine in NYS with Tom Cade at SUNY New Palz.  Here is a link to Meng's obituary:

Mike is for the late NYS DEC wildlife technician Mike Allen, who was so involved in birds of prey.

Samson is a name that means strong.

Thoreau was a respecter of nature.

Three polls have been posted (male name, female name, gender-neutral name). The voting period ends Wednesday night at 11:59 PM EDT.

One of this year's eyases will be given either an appropriate gender-specific name or a gender-neutral name, whichever receives the most votes. In case of a tie, the number of times each of the 2 names was submitted will be used as a tie breaker. If that is a tie too, a coin will be flipped.
