Kris was asking about Belle and nesting history so thought I'd post this over here too.  Did some digging and here's what I've found so far.  Started a new topic because they have a Falcon cam going live soon too!

Found their Facebook page but they only joined in 2012..last year and this year Belle laid / has laid 4 eggs.

They are also getting a 'Falcon Cam' shortly (which I believe someone else posted a few days ago but didn't realize it's was Belle's site)

Here’s some technical stuff from IT that even we bird-lovers can understand: UT’s IT Department explained that creating access for the Fal-Cam involves “punching holes” in the firewall that protects the overall system from cyber-attacks. Right now because of final exams, a system freeze is in place — that is, to ensure that students’ access to the Internet is unimpaired during exams, no changes to the firewall are made. However, IT has been doing the necessary research to identify exactly where the holes need to be punched to allow the Fal-Cam video stream to reach outside campus. Security issues have to be addressed as well so that the Dr. Evils of the world don’t enter the UT system through these holes. IT plans to begin testing its plan for full implementation next week — so hang tight!

Looks like the final chick tally for 2013 is two. Belle & Allen haven’t had a brood this small since 2008. On the other hand, given the parents’ experience in raising gangs of four, these will be two amply-fed chicks!

Terrible fight in the nest. Belle fought off an interloper - eggs scattered - Allen came back after they had flown off - tried to gather back the eggs - waiting for more developments. (Holy Toledo)

Both parents left the nest for a time, and the excited calls in the distance suggest that they went out to make sure the interloper would not return. Now someone is back on the eggs. Must leave the camera now for some time — will appreciate more eyes watching!

Hmm, seems no one can get on the cam! It was said on fb they hear noises outside but no falcon inside!

SGB managed to get the cam.  She's posted some photos over at BCAW.  Looks like 2 eggs have been lost.  Belle may have an injury but hard to tell she is back now on the 2 eggs.  Hopefully they'll do a ground search there to see if the other female needs a rescue or retrieval since Belle looks like she's not the badly bloodied up one.

after Southbend , I do not want to see fights but I just wanted to make sure she was O.k. If it is just a face wound, it will heal and you will only see scars.

Donna , I had to unlock a plugin blocker. I had to do same to get into San Jose and San Fransisco

male was in and she was out for a bit but she is back in and resting. this will take a lot out of her as she is still in recovery after laying eggs.

Belle is Beauty's sister and Unity's mom, so we know she's made of strong stuff.  She'll need that strength now.  I am hoping for the best for Belle, Allen, their surviving eggs and the intruder falcon.

At 7:01pm when male got up, 3 eggs in scrape now. You could see him trying all afternoon to get them there
Remember they just need turned and not below a certain temp. I believe the other 2 have been turned and male stretched out several times. I could not figure out how other 2 were wrecked as in pictures they all looked good. So maybe one more in there by tomorrow evening. If you look at scrape there are so many larger pebbles, so it may be tough to get them there. I have never seen a scrape like this.

Belle is 11 years old! Hope the other 2 eggs are OK. Not collected as of yet! Thanks Bev for the pics!

I hope Belle heals well and the remaining eggs are OK...poor thing and I wonder how the intruder is?

Thanks for the updates on Belle, Alan and the eggs Bev.  There is nothing more fierce than a mom protecting her young.  I hope it remains peaceful there. 

Looks like they could use a nice new layer of pea gravel in that scrape next year.

Eye not looking to good

Allen has all 4 eggs together.

I'm only able to stop in briefly, but it looks like Allen is on the eggs. No sign of Belle outside the tower as I came in. I forwarded the latest shot of her injury to ODNR and asked what their policy is in such cases - probably won't hear back until Monday.

Eye injury is not good-hopefully Allen is hunting for her.  :rolleyes:

Belle is on the eggs. As I drove up — and I know this is anthropomorphizing — I could think of no word but "valiant" to describe the sight of Allen riding the near-gale winds, going on the hunt.

OMG, her face looks horrible.  The poor dear must be in so much pain.

Bev posted some pics of her left eye yesterday on BCAW and it's partially open.  She showed a pic of her injuries to an in-the-know biologist who said he's seen worse and that it should get better over time (barring any bad infection). With Allen hunting for her right now, it's a good thing, allowing her to rest and heal. I can't get the cam either.   :(

I've done everything to try and get that cam to open! It just won't! I have all the plug-ins, reinstalled the new quicktime and NADA!! It's just one of those cams!!

Same here and last year I was able to get it no problem.  :(

Belle returned at the same moment ODNR called. How's that for serendipity? ODNR was glad to hear that she's flying and that both birds are incubating the eggs. As others here have said, the state would intervene only if Belle took a turn for the worse. For now, I'll keep them updated (for some reason, no one in ODNR has a FB page!) and we'll go from there.

Probably be a miracle if those eggs hatch!  :( Adorable juvie but needs to go on an adventure!! Was wondering in the last fight Belle was in, when the eggs get tossed around like that, do they get scrambled, not to be sarcastic but rolling around, can that do damage to the inside?

No access to Toledo but Bev is reporting, egg shell right now at the site.  They said they heard peeping earlier this morning!

I guess we'll never really know if the incident with the intruder had anything to do with the two eggs not hatching.  Belle and especially Allen were so patient and persistent with getting the scattered eggs back in the scrape as soon as they could.  It was very hard to do with the size of the stones in the nest, though.  Anyway, it's wonderful to see those two cute babies and a healing mom.

The babies were banded today!  Their names are: Dr. Jane and Tennant.  The little boy is very tiny but healthy.

Finally! Saw both fledglings at the same time! Have been concerned about Tennant, but just now he was atop one of the lower parapets, inspiring vocal anger from all the campus robins in his vicinity.

Beauty's nephew - son of Belle and Allen from 2009 - Harold has been positively ID'd nesting in Erie, Michigan.  He's been there four years but they didn't get his bands until they put back one of the rescued fledgelings

Seems to be an unbanded peregrine in the nest box. The fal-cam continues to be down, but UT's security people kindly created access for TPP only. Would be sorry if Belle and/or Allen are no longer our resident birds.

Another shot of our new female - will have to do something about selecting a name! When I spoke with ODNR, the officer said that unbanded birds like her are probably a sign of how successfully peregrines are breeding nationwide - more birds means less need to track each one, so fewer birds are banded. There's an upside to everything.

But Allen and Liadan now have four eggs.  Got this pic from Toledo's Facebook post.

It took her quite a while to "get it".  She would lay on the other side of the box, after laying the first egg, and stared at it..must be young.

That was an odd look she was giving that little egg.  Kinda like 'what the heck is that?!'

I know but now it looks like she's got it..someone on the eggs now but don't know who.  Hope things go well here.

Maybe Allen gave her the lowdown on what needs to happen.  It's good there is one experienced parent there.  I'm sure it's better if it's the mom, but I'll bet the dad can teach her some things.

Thanks to Allan's guidance, Liadan seems to be getting the idea of proper mothering.  They now have two hatched and a third egg with pip.  Fingers crossed  ;)

Just saw a feeding and trying to do a count, I think I see 4 heads and an egg!

Wow!  Sounds like all five may hatch.  Allan and Liadan are gonna be busy!

Here's new mom Liadan feeding four gorgeous babies.  Looks like she and Allen have done a great job raising the wee ones so far. 

I watch them once in a while and she has done a great job raising the kids, after a shaky start.  As an aside, someone posted on the Toledo FB page that Liadan occasionally makes a low honking sound, that Belle also made that sound and they had heard Dorothy honked too. They wondered if Liadan could be a Toledo hatch from 2013.  I shared that Beauty honks too..must be a family thing! :laugh:

Ohhhhh, I don't want to think about that! That would mean she and Allen have a father-daughter thing going on, and she displaced her own mother. 

They did go on to say that it would be a reality TV situation, as far as Allen goes, if this was one off his offspring.  They'll never know though because the babies weren't banded that year and neither is Liadan.

From Facebook: There are currently two eggs in the University of Toledo nestbox.  They are assuming that Liadan is the female again this year, but apparently Allen, the male, has been displaced.  In February a banded male was seen in the nestbox, and yesterday an unbanded male was spotted there.  The banded male is b/r 62/B 2012, a hatch from Chase Bank (also known as Bank One Lima) in Lima, OH.
