Title: Fledge Watch - Jemison Goes Down a 2nd Time (4-7pm) Post by: Yarak on 03-Jul-10, 02:00:23 AM Quote Rochester Falcon Watcher:- Carol P. Just a very quick update on Jemison. As Jim P. reported, Jemison did go to the ground a 2nd time.- We noticed when he was on the low ledge, that his right wing was slightly drooping.- When he finally took off at around 7 pm, he could not gain any altitude, landing... Well, they had thought 2 females until Callidora kept getting bigger and bigger and Jemison stayed, well...in the smaller stature. We all just figured he was a male. Did you get a chance to visit with them? It sure has been a rough week as I assume you have read by now. Waiting for reports on Jemison. He really is a SUPER flyer, just a little too anxious and over excited. As I'm writing this I hear some kakking going on...could be Callidora wanting some breakfast. Have you seen the live video yet? It's AMAZING. Anything else, just ask, we'll help. Glad your back. Title: Re: Jemison Update..........7/2 Post by: valhalla on 03-Jul-10, 06:40:08 AM hissing and nipping! Did he eat a snake? hoping it's just a sore wing. thank you so very much, Carol and ALLLLLL the watchers!! what's on the menu? quail? Quail is definitely on the menu. Boy is he going to have a story to tell his sister! Including, "you got the same-old-same-old ! I got this juicy quail". All joking aside, and after reading all of the comments, I do think Ei's post from Mark Nash is a good one, which is to pretty much screw up early, get it over with, and learn a lifetime lesson. We have all lived those life lessons and I guess our falcon babies need to learn them to. Thank you all (I'm not going to attempt to name anyone), including the rehaber, the vets, Wild Wings, et al. Title: Re: Jemison Update..........7/2 Post by: KapiVT on 03-Jul-10, 07:29:48 AM Just a very quick update. Carrie and Shaky volunteered to contact Terry at Wild Wings who graciously offered some appropriate food for our young fledgling. When I was in Rochester for the last Fledge Watch Weekend in 2008, I had the opportunity to tour the Wild Wings facility. One of their major challenges is the increasing cost of providing food for their resident raptors. While waiting for Jemison updates, you might consider visiting their website <www.wildwingsinc.org>, thank them for assisting Jemison, and making a donation. The cost of food is high yet she has shared this with our birds.

Title: Re: Jemison Update..........7/2 Post by: valhalla on 03-Jul-10, 11:06:52 AM I did the Eagle membership, told them to keep the stuff, and to use these dollars for "food", as a thank you for Jemison.
Money is always needed - think the Red Cross, for example, because money can be converted to food or whatever right now - the organization doesn't have to sell it or distribute it, or store it prior to distribution AND the exact specific need can be met with a couple of Uncle Grants (a childhood friend is a great niece of President Grant, hence Uncle Grant). ;) Title: Re: Jemison Update..........7/2 Post by: jeanne on 03-Jul-10, 11:14:40 AM Janet, you are wonderful!!! And very right. I know for a fact that Wild Wings was able to rescue a peregrine last year because donations made it possible. The falcon would have been euthanized had it not been for Wild Wings. She's a beautiful bird. There was concern that she might not be able to adjust to the new environment but the people at WW worked their usual magic and she is fine. They are so devoted to the animals.
Title: Re: Fledge Watch - Jemison Goes Down a 2nd Time (4-7pm) Post by: valhalla on 03-Jul-10, 12:53:10 PM Nah, not wonderful, just fortunate to be able to do donations.
Speaking of donations, consider the USO in this year's giving plan. In addition to all they do for our active military members, they have begun a wounded warrior program. We can't help everyone or every organization, but we can all do our part - one way or another. If I am not mistaken, rehabbers do this as a labor of love and are not compensated. So donations really are helpful and needed. I spoke to the rehabber this afternoon and was told that the XRays were put off until tomorrow (7/6/10. Nothing wrong with Jemison, it was just that the Vet was unable to do them today.
Gary told me that Jemison's wing was not drooping as badly as it had been when we first brought him in. He asked if I could come out for a quick visit to give my opinion. I said sure and asked if fellow Watcher Kathy O could accompany me. He said sure. When Kathy and I arrived, we very briefly took a look at Jemison, who stared back at us intently. I definitely see improvement in the way the wing is positioned. The drooping of his right wing was very evident when we watched him on the north side of the Time Square bldg. This to me was a very positive sign (again my opinion only). Jemison has been eating well on his own and drinking. So, we have to wait for the results of the XRays tomorrow. I hope Jemison is ok and will be able to return to his family soon. Carol P. Carol P. Sounds encouraging. Thanks for posting. Nope, that is my Main Man, Grand Champion Rakiscats Chardin Klees, aka Charly, who came to me at five years old. He is a Chestnut Shaded Silver Oriental Shorthair. He is now a happy go lucky neutered boy of eleven, still gorgeous, and a sweet sweet boy. Carol Keep him away from me, as I'll "liberate" him in a heartbeat! He is gorgeous! Do post more images, please? Title: Re: Fledge Watch - Jemison Goes Down a 2nd Time (4-7pm) Post by: Braveheart2665 on 06-Jul-10, 07:19:55 AM Thanks for the update on Jemison.
