Every hour one lucky ROCstar (donor) will be randomly chosen to give an extra $500 bonus to the charity of their choice. 24 chances to win!

Plus...Rochester Area Community Foundation we'll be checking every two hours to see what registered organizations has the most ROCstar donors during that time period. The organizations with the most unique donors during each two-hour period will get an extra $1000 bonus, and there are 12 up for the grabs! (Agencies can only win this bonus once.)

Can we pick an hour so we can all donate in that hour?  Not to be a cheater or do anything wrong.  I wait for this to donate because of all the bonus money available !  Hope it is good this year.

I see no reason why we can't try to coordinate the 2 hour time period to try and take advantage of the bonus.  But the most important thing is to give.

Sorry - a blank reply was just posted. I think if we can get the same two hour period to post a donation, it would be great!   I plan on contributing, and if there is a time period that may allow for more funds for falconcam, we need to work that! 

The early morning time periods would be best because fewer people in general will be donating to other charities.

More than one 2-hour time period can be targeted if everyone makes a donation during each time period. Just make the donations smaller. For instance, make a $5 donation at 1 AM and another at 3 AM instead of a single $10 donation at 1 AM. Or three time periods can be covered by making $3 donations at 1, 3, and 5 AM. Of course, getting up 3 times in the middle of the night would be a pain.

We have to remember that this year we are competing with all the non-profits (hundreds of organizations) for the incentives.  Last year we were only competing with the non-profits in the environmental group (less than 50 organizations).  I'm game to give it a try.  I will also be looking for any Roc the Day parties to attend.  Maybe I can get additional donations at them.

ROC the Day is a week away!

OK, so what's the best strategy here?

The best strategy is to chose a time when it is least active.  Probably in the early morning hours like midnight to 2 a.m. on 12/12/12 or 2 to 4 a.m. on 12/12/12. 

I would expect that the normal business hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be very busy.  It will probably remain busy until 9 that night at least.  Last year some of the local bars had ROC the Day parties. 

ALSO, like last year, every hour they will chose a donor as the ROC star of the hour and donate $500 to their charity. 
Lots of things to consider.  Since I am not working, I will be monitoring the site and updating the donation amounts routinely during the 24 hour periond.

We understand that not everyone can contribute at that hour. Please give whenever you can. We appreciate all donations.

The 12-2am EST time slot seems to be the best choice so far. While 10-12pm or 6-8am would be much more convenient for most people here, it would also be more convenient for people who would be giving to the bigger charities. The dozens of Rfalconcam supporters online at these times would be no match for the hundreds of supporters donating to a big charity.

I received one too...... only mine is soliciting for UNITED WAY.
I don't know how UW got my address as I don't donate to the "pros."
Only way is my whole development (2000+) apts addresses were
sold to UW.
We are in for some major competition this year.!!!

United Way runs ROC the Day. They get something like 8% of each donation made to the participating non-profits.

OK, so most of us will figure out a way to donate between 12 midnight & 2 AM EST. How about we set an alternate, not-middle-of-the-night target for those not able to do middle of the night? Not as likely to win the challenge then, but better than not trying at all

I was thinking either 10AM-12 noon or 2PM-4PM. I know in my life I'm usually scrambling to get X done before lunch or Y done before I leave work for the day, so they might be less busy times.

It all starts tonight at midnight. Stay up late or set your alarm for 12am. We're going to try to win the 12-2am time slot. Our second "target" is tentatively set for the 10-12pm slot tomorrow morning. So if you can't get make the 1st slot, try for the 2nd. If you can do both, even better! Just make a small donation each time. But please keep checking in throughout the day today and tomorrow. Our plans could change.

I just spoke with someone from ROC the Day.  She may call me tomorrow for a media interview.  The more publicity could equal more donations.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

ROC the Day donations may also be made via telephone by calling 1-800-242-0238.  Less than 5 hours until its time to ROC.

At 5:30 there are 319 donations. That's only 200 donations over a 5 hour period between 12:30 and 5:30. It looks like it would have been easy to win the 2-4am slot. Oh, well. Let's hope we won the 12-2am slot.

How do we know if our donation gets the $500 bonus for our charity?

They will most likely send email to you and to the charity. That is how we were notified of the $1000 bonus.

Can someone contact Wild Wings to let them know that some of us are going to donate between 10 am and noon? They may want to organize their contributor base and combine forces with us.

Didn't make it til  10 pm last night!  Congratulations for  the 1000. Just donated now to falconcam and will do it again after 10 am!   And will do Wildwings too!    Up to 72,000 total when I just checked!

Almost 1300 donations at 8:15 am. That's 1000 in less than 3 hours. Compare that to only 200 in the 5 hours between 12:30 am and 5:30 am. I'm so glad we picked the 12-2 am time period. It would be tough to win that $1000 now.

I love sharing to good causes!  Thanks everyone for considering Wild Wings Inc. as well.  You know they have 4 falcons species - American kestrel, merlin, peregrine falcon, and skaker-gyrfalcon. 

Sorry no $500 bonus from this donor yet, but perhaps my chances will be better later tonight (if all the other donors go to bed early - LOL).

By the way, how could we not get the extra bonus, with the luck of Beauty sitting on Mercury's money bag!

Just noticed on the ROC the Day website that GEVA Theatre won the $1,000 for the 10-12 o'clock time frame.   :(

We made a valiant effort for Wild Wings and I know that they appreciated it.

That's correct Donna.  So we are half way to our total without the bonus.  I believe we can beat last years donation amount of $1,500.  As far as the bonus, we can only do so much for that and we have done our best.  Lets hope someone is the ROC star of the hour for an additional $500.

It all goes to Rfalconcam.  The email states it was won by Rfalconcam.  Last year they combined the totals of GVAS and Rfalconcam.  This year it is obvious that the $1,000 was won by the efforts of Rfalconcam.

I had intended to have enough left to keep going until 11 to keep trying for the ROCstar, but in my sleep at 12:12 this morning I put in more than I intended! Oh well! It was worth it to get the bonus!

You are 100% correct.  It wise to try for the $1,000 bonus.  The $500 ROCstar bonus would be icing on the cake.

I have to go, only 4 minutes left on library computer.  Shaky will keep people updated through midnight.  Unfortunately, I cannot access the results with my smart phone.  But I can still make donations.  3 minutes and counting.

ROC the Day's page says that they received 10,069 donations and raised $875,000. That number was just over $635,000 when the clock ran out. There must have been some sort of matching contribution challenge that was added afterward to raise it to an even $875,000.
