Morning watch 4-7-14
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
There was a nice sunrise as I made my way downtown on 490 with a temperature of 34 (F) 1 (C) but the clouds rolled in soon after I arrived on the Broad St. Bridge (BSB) leaving the skies overcast

I was slow to find a falcon this morning but finally about 6:45am I spotted Beauty on the base of Mercury with something to eat. Donna texted me to say Beauty and Dot.Ca (DC) had been in the nest box while I was on the north side of the city looking for them. Thanks D!
I parked on Broad St. by the Blue Cross Arena (BCA) to watch and about 5 minutes later the Beautyful one flew east with her prey disappearing behind Bausch & Lomb and most likely cached it over there somewhere. While I was focusing on the east side Beauty snuck to the nest box without me seeing her, but thankfully I have eyes in the back of my head in the form of cam watchers. Thank you to Annette who tweeted that Beauty was there!
Around 7:10am Beauty jumped up onto the roof of her nest box. While she was up there good friend and fellow falcon watcher DebbieH stopped by on her way to work.
I left Beauty to check on the Brighton site and as soon as I left Annette tweeted a food exchange at nest box and then Debbie texted to say there was a falcon on Widows Walk eating. Thanks ladies! I just love how falcons play the game of “as soon as those watchers leave lets go into action”! I found no falcons in Brighton and after staying about 20 minutes I returned to downtown finding Beauty back on the base of Mercury.
Beauty flew off soon after at 8:36am heading west-I figured to the nest box and confirming it was Annette who said DC was on deck and then there was bonding between he and Beauty.
I made a u-turn on the BSB and went to the hole hoping to see them. I missed DC exiting but I spotted him on the base of Mercury around 8:50am eating something with long wings (probably a pigeon).
DC finished up around 9:10am then hopped up on the green part of the base and cached his leftovers. He hung out there while Beauty hung out at the front of the nest box
At 9:31am DC flew off to the east-I watched him as he flew in front of Xerox then disappeared behind it to the southeast.
I ended my watch with a smile at 9:35am, happy to have seen our downtown duo fill their crops! 🙂
