Morning watch 4-13-14
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
Heat wave for real today-it was 53 (F) 12 (C) when I left for my watch with 80 forecast for a high with a mix of sun and clouds
I found Dot.Ca (DC) on the base of Mercury as I pulled over on the Broad St. Bridge (BSB). I had time to get one pic before he took off with a package in his talons chirping the whole time and heading west.

As I drove down to the hole I spotted Beauty on the opposite corner of the base that DC had been on. He must have taken off as she arrived as they usually do. I spotted him on the back half of the Times Square building (TSB) north side column plucking feathers from a Northern “Yellow-shafted” Flicker.
I drove across from the hole to the parking lot next to TSB for a closer view of DC and his catch of the day.
DC was getting his share of the woodpecker in between sending feathers fluttering in the breeze. As I was focused on him, Beauty must have gotten tired of waiting and flew to the nest box as reported by Annette. Thanks! DC spent another 20 minutes after that eating and plucking, eating and plucking. I thought he might eat it all and not share any with Beauty, who hadn’t eaten since before laying her 3rd egg at 12:03am.
Finally at 7:21am DC flew off with a good sized chunk of food and took it to the base of Mercury. He just stood there at first, then he started calling Beauty and when she didn’t come to him he took it to the north side of the deck next to the main camera.
Beauty came out and grabbed his food gift and went to the base of Mercury to start eating. I went up on the BSB for a front view of the Beautyful one as she ate her breakfast.
Beauty finished eating and turned around showing me her back so I went down to the holeย to share space with her. She did some cleaning up and then just stayed perched and resting.
I thought this a good time to check Brighton but again neither Pigott or the juvie falcon were around. A quick look on the south side roof had a Mourning Dove on it along with 1 crow and a couple Starlings. I left after a short stay to return downtown. It was busy around the Blue Cross Arena as a cheerleading competition was the event scheduled there. The BSB parking was filling up quickly as I pulled over to check around for falcons. I could see Beauty on the north side of the deck so I figured DC was on the eggs.
I opted to end my watch at 8:45am before it got any more crowded around there. In Rochester today I bet there were many smiles due to the summer-like weather-I know I was smiling! ๐
