Morning watch 6-7-11

By Rochester falcon watcher MAK

Hi to all you Rochester falcon fans! When I first arrived on the Broad St. bridge this morning at about 5:35 I could just barely see Beauty up on the front perch of the nestbox.

Beauty left when I wasn’t looking of course and the hunt was on for her. About 20 minutes later I spotted her on the northeast corner of the launchpad on the Kodak Office Tower.

As I sat there watching the Beautyful one she started to whine! I thought Archer might be somewhere close. No such luck! I guess Peregrine falcons talk to themselves too or maybe she was whining to me. lol We hung out together for about 20 minutes there and then she flew off in the direction of Times Square. As I approached I could see that she had landed under the northeast wing of the Times Square building, so I drove down to Aqueduct St. and parked the truck.

Beauty and I spent the remainder of my watch here. Have a great day everyone!  🙂

I’ve been hearing a lot about whining – that Unity whines. I’m familiar with echupping adn kakking, but whining? What does that usually indicate?
Has Beauty been a whiner before in your watches?
Did you notice a funny color sky this morning about 5 or 5:30? Strange color light this AM.

You are welcome Donna! Margaret, we call it whining cuz that’s the only word that comes to mind to explain it. Not sure what it indicates, maybe someone else can answer that one. Beauty hasn’t whined too much in the past but I remember Calidora did it alot! Perhaps it’s a begging for food vocalization although when Unity does it many times it ends with her and Archer copulating. The sky was fine this morning with a great sunrise but it quickly turned gray and dark with a little spritz of rain around 6:00am. 🙂

Maybe Beauty was hungry. Earlier today she looked thin to me, but tonight in a nest box pic i looked at, her crop looked full. Thanks, MAK.

She may be used to Archer supplying food and is now getting her own.
