Morning watch 4-14-14
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
I stepped out the house for the first time since last fall without a jacket on as it was 68 (F) 20 (C) mostly overcast with a brisk breeze (actually it was quite windy) and a cool sunrise as I drove down route 490

Beauty was on her eggs when I left home and as arrived at 6:30am I scanned the area from the Broad St. bridge (BSB). I spotted a falcon on the Kodak Office launchpad. I took off to investigate and found it to be Dot.Ca (DC) in hunt mode. I parked on the north side of Kodak in the Harmco Plumbing supply store.
He didn’t stay for long as he flew off to the north going into stoop formation, vanishing quickly behind buildings. I waited a few minutes and when he didn’t return I headed back to the Times Square (TSB) area. I found DC on top of the Mercury money bag (MMB) with no food so he had missed whatever he stooped on over at KO.
A minute later Beauty flew from the nest box to the base of Mercury. DC looked down at her and promptly dropped off the money bag to mate with her at 7am.
DC went to the nest box as reported by Annette (TY) and Beauty started picking at a tiny bite sized morsel of leftover food. She managed to sneak off while I was tweeting so I took a ride to look around for her. When I got back Beauty was on the northeast wing ledge of the TSB so I went to the hole to share space with her.
The Beautyful one did some serious preening while up there and around 7:50am she spotted DCĀ and soon he joined her on the ledge before jumping up on her to mate once again.
DC then flew over to the MMB and a moment later Beauty flew over to circle DC then off to land on the deck and into the nest box.
I drove up to the BSB to watch DC just before he took off east across the river going into a stoop before leaving my field of vision behind the Radisson Hotel.
I waited a bit and when he didn’t return I set out to the Brighton Site-arriving there at 8:15am I saw a falcon on the south side roof above the vent. I got all excited because I could see that it was an adult and I thought maybe it was Pigott but I soon determined that it was DC.
I started tweeting it out and when I looked up again he was gone. After a couple trips around the pot hole infested driveway with no sign of DC I went back downtown. I found DC on the lower back roof of TSB on the north side-he had food. I parked by Keybank in the hole to watch as he started filling the air with feathers from his prey after staring a pigeon with a death wish back away from the roof above him.
DC picked at his beak a bit trying to get a feather off and then it was time to make a food delivery to his darlin’. He grabbed his prepared meal and flew to the deck with it.
Beauty promptly grabbed it and flew to the base of Mercury as I promptly flew up to the BSB where I could see the front of her and DC went into the nest box.
I saw a duck down on a cement thingie that stuck out from the bottom of the Thomson Reuters building-she flew off landing in the river.
Back to Beauty who finished up her meal and cached the leftovers on the green part of the base.
She feaked her beak trying to get some feathers off of it and then she decided to fly over to cam 1, so back to the hole I went to get a few parting shots as she looked like she was getting sleepy.
At 9:20am I ended my very busy watch, smiling after having spent time with our downtown Rochester Peregrine Falcon pair on this 14th day of April! š
PS: although their tweets came too late, I want to thank Annette and NCA for trying to help me keep track of Beauty and DC

Hi NCA-I am an early bird, hard for a Californian to go on watch with me. Heck it’s hard for the locals too! lol š
