Falcon Watch (7 to 8:30 pm) – No Orion this Evening, But We Did Have a Guest Tweeter! – 9/6/12
By Rochester Falcon Watcher Carol P.
I arrived downtown close to 7:00 pm. I knew I didn’t have long before it got dark, but I really wanted to see “our” falcons. Just as I was entering the downtown area, I received a tweet. It was from Lou aka Louigi! 🙂 He and Dana were on the Broad St Bridge (BSB) and they had two adult falcons, Dot.ca on the very top of the jail communication tower eating and Beauty at the base of the SE wing of the Times Square Bldg (TSB). After checking the Frontier Communication Tower (FCT), I joined them on the BSB. We were soon joined by Jeanne, Joyce and Kathy O. It wasn’t long before D.C. was no longer on the FCT. Now where did he go? We had no clue. We spread out and searched but had no luck finding him. Beauty remained on the TSB with her back to us. It was really hard to see her up there. On her way in, Kathy O had checked the surrounding area, but was unable to find Orion.
Our Guest Tweeter Lou continued to tweet out what we were seeing during the evening watch.
While we waited, hoping that Orion would return to his nightly roost, we were happy to see that the neighborhood birds were on a health kick.
Last night Orion came in around 8:10 pm. Tonight by 8:30 pm, he did not make an appearance, unless he was up there and we just couldn’t see him. It was a beautiful evening and I was happy to see Beauty and Dot.ca and my fellow Watchers, but I had hoped to see Orion too. Thankfully the weekend is nearly here. I do love getting out early to watch the morning activity of the Rochester Falcons. Something to definitely keep my eyes to the sky for. 🙂
When we left at approximately 8:30 pm, Beauty remained up on the base of the SE wing of the TSB. She had been there the whole time we were on watch this evening. Dot.ca snuck off after enjoying his dinner on top of the jail tower. We did not see Orion this evening at all. I’ll definitely be back tomorrow and I truly hope to see all three of our Rochester Falcons.
Here are some other pics from this evening.

Beautiful shots, Carol. Sorry you didn’t see Orion…But what a nice evening to be out and about with like-minded pals.

Gorgeous pictures. I was thinking that all this being out and about in the fresh air, wind and weather must also be good for falcon watcher’s health, building up their resistance to colds and such.
