crying Whenever human activity collides head-on with birds and other wildlife, I am reminded of this frightening, pessimistic quotation by Jacques Deval:

"God loved the birds and invented trees.  Man loved the birds and invented cages."

Shaky, that link to the new-style turbines was interesting - thanks for posting it. The wind farms are wreaking havoc on flying creatures across the nation.   Angry Wind farms are a highly-touted "green" source of energy but not enough thought went into them. Bat Conservation International has been running a campaign asking that turbines be shut down at dawn and dusk, peak feeding times for bats, and that has resulted in fewer mortalities for farms that are willing to do it. It's not the speed that kills bats, it's the drastic change in pressure when they enter the turbines. With lots of letter-writing to legislators, perhaps turbines could be shut down during the raptor migration.  Hawk Mountain, a famous raptor corridor near me, is extremely worried about the new farms planned for NJ, NY, and PA. I sure hope something can be worked out to protect raptors and bats and still reap the benefits of wind power.

I'm so sorry Lucky didn't lead a long life.  But I'm very happy that she was so well loved during that time, and will always have a special place in your heart.   heart

These are our cats, Jazz (gray) and Mittens (black). Jazz likes to scrunch into small hiding places and she loves to eat. She is especially fond of lettuce, of all things. Mittens likes to roll over for tummy rubs and is excellent at jumping to the highest places in our home. She loves to walk outside on her leash and stalk bugs. They both like to "help" us with whatever we're doing, and are wonderful companions.

Albion, as Shaky said, this is covered in Help. Here is how to upload your avatar: Click on Profile (in the top bar), then click on Forum Profile Information (on the left), then click on either "I have my own pic" or "I will upload my own picture". There's a space to type in the link to whatever graphic you want to use as your avatar. Hope this helps.

698  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons News / Re: The Verdict at Midtown: No Nest on: 12-Aug-09, 05:48:07 PM
Now I'm almost glad that the Mariah / Archer pairing was broken up by Beauty so Mariah could not nest there at Midtown. It would have been awful to see her eggs or young washed away by rain pouring into that gutter. I'm also glad that A & B did not nest there either.

I was modifying my profile to add more information and create an avatar, and saw a line for creating my own signature. Where do I go to do that, like choosing a font, color, or smiley? Thanks in advance for your help.
