Offspring Update: Freedom and Millie Brooding 3 Eggs

Our good friend Doug in Port Colborne reports that Freedom and his new mate Millie are busy brooding three eggs. Though Millie is only a year old Doug reports that she’s tending the eggs just like an experienced mom. We here at the Rochester Falconcam are all very excited to see how Freedom and Millie do with their offspring this year. We’re hoping for three healthy eyases!

Doug sent along a fantastic picture that he took of Freedom on one of his typical perches. The picture was taken just a few days ago, on the 19th of April. What an impressive Peregrine he is!

Thanks to Rochester Falconcam team member Carol Phillips for bringing us Doug’s latest report and picture!

What a magnificent looking peregrine, but I may be biased. He is the spitting image of Mariah and even has the likeness above the cere. Please thank Doug for making our Earth Day special.

Gorgeous photo, a handsome bird. Can anyone tell me how many of Mariah’s offspring have been located? I know some have perished, I would be interested in the full information. Thanks.

  8. Josh Alexandria VA Says:

They must have super offspring or something!
That’s one heck of a bird!

  9. AJ Says:

I am confused. I’ve read that Rhea Mae & Freedom were mates and now It’s Millie.
Also, there were four eggs and now there are three. Am I missing part of the story?

The pictures are great! The birds seem to be so much lighter than ours. Very white chested. The eyes are almost baby-ish.

  10. Sarampa1 Says:

AJ, Rhea Mae’s mate is Tiago. They have four eggs. Freedom and Millie have three.

I found this on the PA site – perhaps it is 2007 offspring?

    Nancy Capstick. (October 20, 2007)
I have been watching the webcams of the falcons in Harrisburg for a couple of years now, but have never seen one live…UNTIL TODAY!!!!!

I was out walking this morning (Oct.20) near the corner of Lisburn Rd. and Slate Hill Rd. in Camp Hill, PA when I happened to glance up at the roof of an apt. building where it was sunny. I could see a big bird but couldn’t see it clearly, so I took out my little binoculars that I carry with me on walks. It was a juvenile peregrin falcon and it had a blue band on its leg. It stayed there for about 2 minutes, looking around, then flew off over the back of the building. It made my day!

  15. Marcia Lyman Says:

Ann, if you could relay this to Nancy Capstick –

IF that juvenile Peregrine is one of the Rochester hatch from last year, the blue band would belong to Grace. Other eyases from last year in NY state also got blue tape over their USFWS bands, I’m sure. Mike Allen of NYSDEC uses the colored tape on birds he’s banding in several nesting locations.

But it would be really cool if someone could read the letters and numbers on the band the falcon wears on his or her left leg. Maybe it is a Rochester falcon!

  16. Kathy Villone Says:

THANKS FOR THE INFO ON MILLIE AND FREEDOM. I JUST LOVE HEARING ABOUT MARIAH’S OFFSRING..HOPE ALL THE CHICKS HATCH AND ARE WELL.

  17. Nancy C. Says:

    For Marcia Lyman:
This is so strange….I just happened on this site and saw my name and my observation that I left on the Harrisburg, PA Falcon website! No, Marcia, this would not have been a juvenile from Rochester, NY. Every year on a ledge on the Rachel Carson Bldg. in downtown Harrisburg, PA, there is a webcam focused on a pair of falcons and their offspring. Unfortunately, not all the juveniles suvive the summer of their first year, so I was so happy to see this one in a nearby town where I live. It is still around as I have seen it and there have been other sitings in this area. Hope you will check out the Harrisburg Falcon Webcam.
