Morning watch 6-24-13
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
When I stepped out the door this morning it was 71 (F) 21 (C) with a breeze that was blowing the humid air around.
As I approached the Broad and Exchange Blvd. intersection at 5:15am I spotted Beauty flying toward the river near the Blue Cross Arena. Up to the Broad St. Bridge I went to find her but she was gone, I did however find the super moon over by the jail tower.
I wouldn’t see Beauty again for 35 minutes as I searched the city for her and ended up just waiting for her to show up parked by the stairs at Falcon Watcher Central (FWC). I looked up at 5:48am to see Beauty fly to the main cam.I went down to the hole (Aqueduct St.) to watch as she flew to the base of Mercury and then to the deck. I suspected she was looking for cached food and I got confirmation when cam watcher Annette reported Beauty feeding eyases. Thanks! When she was done Beauty flew to the heel of Mercury.
After 15 minutes of looking for a prey bird Beauty flew across the river behind the Hyatt Hotel to try her luck on the east side.

A couple minutes later as I made my way up to the Broad St. Bridge (BSB) I spotted Beauty above Xerox abd then she disappeared behind it. T 6:15am as I watched the east side there was activity going on behind me that I was made aware ofย by Donna and Campgee (cam watchers are literally the eyes in the back of my head). Beauty and Dot.Ca (DC) were at the nest box and one of them had brought food. I turned to see DC fly from the deck to the northeast wing.
I moved down to the hole to observe daddy DC as he watched Beauty feed their hungry little family from above.
At 6:30am or so DC stooped down the north side of the Times Square building-missing his mark he flew off to the east out of sight as Beauty flew over to the heel of Mercury once more.
5 minutes later Beauty flew off right over my head across the bridge at break neck speed clearing the railing on the other side by a couple feet and poof she dropped out of sight stooping down in the river. She did it so fast that I almost didn’t turn in time to see and then she came back up empty taloned and flew east over the South Ave. garage and out of my field of vision. WOW-I so wish everyone could have experienced that with me-incredible to see!
After scanning the eastern sky for Beauty with my binocs I turned to find DC had returned to the northeast wing ledge and I could see 2 kids up on deck.
I returned to the hole for closer viewing and then went searching for the Beautyful one to no avail. I then left for the Brighton Site to see if Pigott was home. Arriving at 7:2oam I found her on a west side top window ledge by the corner where it meets the west extension. She was preening and gaping (throwing head back with mouth wide open) and she hadย her back to me.
I didn’t stay long for I had an appointment to get to soon. I went back downtown to check and met up with DebbieH by the stairs at FWC. DC was under the northeast wing and Beauty on the base of Mercury but she flew off behind the Thomson Reuters building right away. Just before 8am DC flew north only to return to the northeast wing ledge. Debbie had to get to work and I had to end my watch and get going. All 3 Rochester Peregrine Falcons were seen. It was good to see fellow watcher and friend DebbieH – giving me yet another reason to smile! ๐

That’s one bright moon! Love the contrast in the 6:30 pics of Beauty on heel with Mercury being the background.
