Morning watch 3-14-11
By Rochester falcon watcher MAK
Hello to all you Rochester falcon fans! I’m very happy to report that Archer and Beauty have wasted no time in getting together to bring us a new family in 2011. As I arrived downtown this morning I wondered if it was going to be worth coming as the time change has hacked into my watch time in the morning. As I drove across the Broad St. bridge I took a look at Mercury and OCSR without a sighting I kept going and drove to the east side to check out Xerox and HSBC. Finding nothing over there I drove back to the bridge and saw Beauty up on the base of Mercury. Feathers were flying and I could see that she was eating her breakfast.
It was still a bit dark out but I managed to spot Archer under the southeast wing of the Times Square building.
5 minutes later as I was taking pics of Beauty Archer suddenly came in the picture and landed on her for a quick copulation and here is the dark, grainy terrible picture of them.
Archer flew off returning to the Times Square building under the southeast wing and the Beautyful one went right back to eating! Soon after, Archer flew to the jail tower and Beauty flew off somewhere perhaps to cache her leftovers. As soon as she returned and landed on the outstretched money bag hand of Mercury Archer flew over from the jail tower and mounted her again. He flew down to the base briefly and then returned to his mate for another round. Archer then flew east out of sight. Beauty remained on the money bag hand for the rest of my watch and just before I left Archer flew in from behind me and mated with Beauty one more time and then flew back to the east once again.
I drove off very pleased to know that our Rochester Peregrine Falcon pair have begun the process of creating a family for all the world to see! 🙂

What a report! You are there at all the right times! When it comes time to name the offspring, maybe “Mercury” should be considered? Just a thought.
