Falcon Watch: Tuesday, April 28 (8:00 – 8:25 P.M.)
From watcher Carla P:
I worked until 8:00 P.M. tonight, and decided to make a quick stop at Midtown on my way home. When I turned onto Elm Street, I could see a falcon perched on the ledge(northeast corner)of lower Midtown. I wasn’t sure who it was at first, but then I spotted another falcon on the ledge in front of the scrape and knew from the size that this was Beauty! She was enjoying a meal, and Archer remained a few yards away on the corner of the ledge. They are both beautiful birds, and I know in my heart that we will all grow to love them in time.
At about 8:20, Beauty took off, headed east and circled around, landing on the low yellow brick building north of Midtown(?) Archer then took off and circled around to “hook up” (literally!) with Beauty. The copulation lasted approximately 8 to 10 seconds. Both took off then, heading south, and as it was getting dark, I ended my Watch at 8:25. Neither returned before I left.
This was a thrilling watch for me, because it was the first time I had witnessed copulation. It was quite beautiful. What a wonderful way to end a long work day. Life is good!
