Morning watch 8-10-11
By Rochester falcon watcher MAK
20 minutes…that’s the amount of time I’ve spent with the Beautyful one in the last 3 days. I am very thankful for it and even though I don’t have much to report I do have a few pics to share. I left the house without my binoculars or my scope this morning (dummy) but I did have my camera so I wasn’t totally naked, so to speak. lolΒ After making the rounds in the dark which is how it is these days ’til just before 6:00am I parkedΒ on the Broad St. bridge. I got antsy sitting there without my trusty binocs seeing as how everything is a bit of a distance away. So I decided to go over to my spot on Fitzhugh St. in front of the sister cities parking garage just down the street from city hall and wait to see if either Beauty or Archer would show themselves on FCT. As I crossed Main St. and the Frontier Communications tower came into view I spotted her right away. Beauty was under the platform on her favorite perching location on the tower.
Woohoo!!! I hadn’t seen her since Sunday and felt quite blessed to find her with only 20 minutes left before I had to head home. I don’t know what it’s like to watch falcons flying in the gorge at high falls like the other watchers so just to sit and watch one preening as Beauty was doing might seem boring to them but it’s what I am used to and it’s enough for me. In between picking and plucking at her feathers she would look to the north toward Kodak Park I assume for Archer.
I left downtown having gotten my falcon fix, smiling the whole way home! Gee did I say I didn’t have much to report? I do have the gift of gab when I am writing a report sometimes!! I hope everyone has a super day!Β π

While the memories of flying in the gorge are great, there was also an awful lot of sitting and watching them nap and preen on their favorite perches too. Thanks for the report MAK!

You’re welcome Ei! I’m sure there was lots of sitting and watching them nap and preen, after all that’s what falcons do for the most part. I was just sayin’… π

And there is something quite relaxing and restful about watching a peregrine nap & preen…you can just feel the cares of the world slip away…

Absolutely Ei. It is my salvation! π

Boring? I think not. If watching these falcons for hours on end, sitting, flying, sitting, eating, sitting, copulating, sitting. You get the idea. Lots and lots of sleeping.

Yes boring Carol! When there was no juvies around I heard comments many times from more than one watcher of how boring Beauty and Archer were. I’m just saying that I’m used to not a whole lot of action out of them. But boy when there is action it’s hard to control myself! lol π

Lol…I’ve only seen them flying fast and then poof GONE! Once I saw one sitting on a pole and I went to get my camera, looked back and it was gone. So 20 minutes with Beauty is a treat!!
Love your reports MAK! π

It absolutely is a treat of which I am truly grateful for Ginny! And it’s for the people out there who are not lucky enough to watch falcons that I take pictures and write reports. I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining for I do know how fortunate I am. A line from a song of which I don’t remember is this…”I don’t want much I just want more!” lol π

MAK, you are most fortunate! I would love to spend time watching Beauty and Archer (when he chooses to show!) We — out here — love your reports, and rely on your reports to keep us up to date on the falcons. I, personally, am envious of the time you get to spend with our PeFas! Even if we don’t comment, we reading!

Nope, never boring. π Always something else to watch when our falcons are sitting still.
