Morning watch 2-8-13
By Rochester Falcon Watcher MAK
Today is storm day for the entire east coast. A Nor’easter will dump around a foot of snow here in Rochester by the time it’s all over tomorrow morning.
I arrived on the Broad St. bridge a little after 7:00am and after no sign of Beauty in the immediate area I took a ride. I ended up back on the bridge after not finding her. The Aqueduct pigeons suddenly surfaced darting back and forth in their frenzied state and I thought surely the Beautyful one was near. No such luck as they flew up to the roofs edge of the Blue Cross Arena to perch. I waited a bit then I made a u-turn to have a look at the east side as I was getting ready to take a trip around the city. I spotted Beauty fly to the northwest corner of the Bausch&Lomb building, land and take off again after only a couple seconds vanishing behind it to the east. I never found her so I set out for the Brighton site. After my second ride around the property I was surprised when I found BST on the west extension. He has always been on the east extension in the morning when I see him. Perhaps he knew the storm would come from the east and so the best protection from it would be on the west side of the building. I think birds are smarter than we know.
He was on the second window down south side across from the nook in the corner and he was moving around at first glance. However, that quickly ended as he tucked his head into a wing and went to sleep. What a shocker eh!? lol He is one sleepy little man! BST woke up on and off to have a look around in the half hour I spent with him. I wish Pigott had been there but it’s not unusual for her to be absent when I am at the site in the morning, besides CarolP had seen her last night so I’m sure she is fine.
It was starting to snow when I left BST just before the 9 o’clock hour. I checked a couple times around downtown for Beauty and as I couldn’t see too well with the snow coming down I almost passed her up. I had looked from the Andrews St. bridge but didn’t see her on the northwest side until I pulled over on State St. just past Church St. across from the Rochester Plaza Hotel. I scanned the top ibeam slowly with my binoculars and bingo there she was in all the white stuff that was coming down from the sky.
I took half a dozen pics and none of them showed her very well for the snow was coming down too hard. I ended my watch at that point as I could barely see Beauty. A smile came across my face as I left downtown because I love big snow storms and this one was about to get cranked up! 🙂

BST is one sleepy little guy MAK 🙂 He is so much fun to watch though! And yes I think birds are very smart too.
Thanks for the report 🙂

He is just a typical male! But a cutie! And I agree, birds are so smart! Smarter than they are ever given credit for by most people. Hence the term — “bird brain” WE should ALL be so lucky! Just sayin’
