Falcon Watch Pictures – 7/3/2010 (Jemison Goes Down)
From Lou
We arrived last evening around 5:30 pm to find fellow falcon watchers all huddled in the parking lot on the north side of the Times Square building. Jemison was on a window structure on the north side of the TS building, about 25 feet above people walking to their cars in the busy parking lot there. There was an event letting out at the War Memorial in addition to normal traffic, so the streets, sidewalks, and parking lot were quite busy, causing a heightened level of concern in the watchers as they waited for Jemison to take off so that they could confirm whether or not he was okay. About 7:30, he finally did take off and it didn’t go well. He went down. Luckily, he flew west and avoided the traffic on State Street and allowed for a much easier rescue. We took him to a rehab station in Churchville, NY where he was examined by a rehabber and a veterinarian. We left him there for further evaluation, so as Carol shared in her report, there will be more communication once there is more certainty as to what’s happening.
Attached is an album with some pics (click on the below pic of Jemison’s takeoff to view)

Thank you for this, Lou. It makes things much more bearable to see the actual photos of the rescue and Jemison at the rehabbers and with the vet. I especially like the photo of Jemison and the rehabber looking at one another as if discussing what transpired. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more. Am optimistic that whatever is wrong with Jemison will be fixed. And thanks to all the watchers who literally came to the rescue!

Thanks for the photo documentary, Lou. I know that, too often, I want to jump into the thick of the action instead of hanging back and documenting it. You’ve provided a great record of what transpired, and given everyone a look at the careful attention that Jemison is getting. Great work.

Thank you SO much for the photos and commentary. Thanks to the watchers/rescuers who were there for Jem. Jem looks like he’s in capable hands and hopefully he’ll be flying again soon.

Thank you all for all of your efforts in helping the baby J. Am hoping that healing occurs and she can rejoin the family. Without your vigilance who knows what would have happened. Applause to you ALL.

Thank you to all who were involved with the rescue of Jemison…. Without dedicated people every year for our falcons we would not be able to enjoy this event in Rochester. I am hoping that everything goes well with Jemison.. I am sure it will.
The quick response of the team made sure that Jemison will get the best possible care so she/he can be released in time to join the family…

Thanks for posting this album of pictures of Jemison’s rescue. I’m just so glad that he’s in a safe place and that he will hopefully heal and be returned to where he belongs, with his family. It was a heck of a day. – Carol P.

I echo everyone’s sentiments above – Thank you very much for the photos and commentary, Lou, as well as the other watchers. Positive thoughts for Jemison’s quick healing and release, and a big sigh of relief that he’s in great hands in the interim.
