1  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Dead Falcon? on: 05-May-20, 03:28:34 PM
My guess would be that someone cleaned it up -- maybe someone from the City.
2  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Dead Falcon? on: 05-May-20, 12:11:36 PM
About 9:30 this morning -- Tuesday, May 5 -- I was driving north on Mt. Hope. Just a little south of Elmwood there was a dead bird in the northbound lane. It was a large bird, white, grey, and a few black feathers. I'm wondering if that was a Peregrine Falcon? Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.
4  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / How Many Eyas Are There? on: 14-May-17, 08:23:59 AM
On May 3 there was a post asking if the fourth egg would hatch. There were several responses suggesting it wouldn't but that still held out hope. I haven't seen anything that said the 4th egg hatched but the photo accompanying the announcement of the naming contest clearly shows 4 eyas. So did the 4th egg ever hatch or are there only three eyas?
5  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Any Port in a Storm on: 14-Mar-17, 12:47:46 PM
I've often wondered why the falcons don't take refuge in the boxes when we're having terrible weather such as today. Seems like a nice, safe place to ride out bad weather.
6  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: If 4th Egg Hatches, Can It Survive? on: 12-May-15, 11:43:08 AM
It looks as if Beauty isn't sitting on the egg any more. Does that mean it's probably not going to hatch or just that it's warm enough she doesn't have to sit on it?
7  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / If 4th Egg Hatches, Can It Survive? on: 11-May-15, 03:45:20 PM
I can't help wondering if the 4th egg hatches, can the eyas survive? It would be so much smaller and weaker than its siblings that I would think it could not compete for food and would not thrive. Does anyone know anything about this kind of situation?
8  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Banding & Naming Questions on: 14-Jun-14, 08:10:17 AM
I've read the FAQs about how to tell Beauty and Archer apart and how to tell Beauty and Dot.ca apart. On both it says that Beauty has a green and black band on her left leg and that the males have all black bands. Is this is always the case -- females get green/black bands and males get all black bands. I've noticed at least two of the eyas have green/black bands so wonder if that means those are female.
9  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons News / Re: Eyases to be Banded Today on: 10-Jun-14, 11:22:00 AM
How do the parents react when the folks doing the banding approach the nest and take the eyas out? Do they try to attack them? How do the parents act while the eyas are gone and then after they are returned?

I'll second the vote for Doof!
11  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons News / Re: The Eyas Naming Polls are Open on: 09-Jun-14, 11:08:28 AM
Seems to me I see 4 eyas, too. Is one going to travel in cognito?
12  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / When Neither Parent is at the Nest Box on: 27-May-14, 05:02:46 PM
I'm curious as to how much at risk the eyas are when neither parent is at nest box. What predators are around that might attack them?

Photos are breathtaking -- thanks!

14  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Where Do They All Go After Fledging? on: 04-Jul-13, 10:37:22 AM
I'm wondering what happens after they fledge. As I recall in past years, the eyas and parents left the nest box pretty soon after. How long after they fledge does this happen? And where do they go? Do they leave the area or sleep in trees or on buildings or what?
15  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / What About the Unhatched Egg? on: 30-May-13, 02:59:03 PM
Just wondering if the last egg is ever going to hatch or whether, because it hasn't yet, it is a lost cause.
