And thats why Ive never been able to watch a stork webcam  Shocked  I only remember one eyas dying and it was heartbreaking. It was so weak but not for lack of Mariah and Kaver trying to feed it. Peregrines are awesome parents.

It's amazing what these birds can tolerate and still have a successful season.

The first time I saw something like this was Ft. St. Vrain, Colorado (I think). Poor mother eagle was completely covered.

I could only see the tip of her beak the am and she had a 2 inch crown of snow.. It is amazing

Duke Farms Bald Eagles have 2 eggs laid mid month and they are incubating fighting the elements here in Central NJ. This morning when I checked in you could see a  very slight mound where its back lie and snow almost completely covering the females head except for the beak. With so many snow falls one after the other here and little time for it to melt down enough to expose grass I worry for the birds  blustery
Heres the link for the Duke Farms Bald Eagle nest

Duke Farms Eagle Camera on USTREAM: 2/20/2015 The 2nd egg has been laid at aprox 2:20pm! 2/17/2015 The 1st egg of the season was laid sometime last night ...

6  Anything Else / Totally OT / Ran into a Rochester Falcon Fan on: 23-Sep-14, 01:00:20 AM
I was in Myrtle Beach last week at an RV Rally and at one of the dinners where there were maybe 500 people I sit at a table with 8 other strangers and start up a convo with the gentleman and his wife sitting across from me as Im waiting for our table to be called for our meal and guess what?? I ask the husband where their from and he says Ill. but he also lived in Rochester NY for years. So I say Rochester? Really? Well I was a huge fan of the Falcons there Kaver and Mariah who nested on Kodaks building !! You had to know them right? Oh yeah he did. handshake He Said he went by the name WildBill on Kodaks board. He knew all about our little family  We were reminiscing for quite a while  wave It was so nice to meet someone who knew the falcons like I did  Smiley I seem to remember his face for some reason Maybe a picture here?. He said he worked at the Brewery.
Wow is it a small world ! Very nice couple.  Can you imagine out of hundreds of people lol

9  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Banding & Naming Questions on: 12-Jun-14, 12:49:11 AM
Just an idea   thumbsup I would never want to put any eyas in danger  Cry. Thats why I wondered if it were done safely at other sites to see how difficult it is to put together. You have such lovely little parks in Rochester and dedicated watchers its sad to hear they dont get to see any bandings anymore since Kodak. I remember the school children that used to love to name an eyas and I could just imagine their little faces when they saw them up close after watching them for weeks on the cams. I bet many of those children grew up with a love of nature because of those times and events
From here in NJ I thank you all for what you do putting together the videos so I can share in the day each year. Enjoying the new and reminiscing about the ole  falcon
10  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Banding & Naming Questions on: 11-Jun-14, 08:08:12 PM
Why not hold the banding outside at a local park only a short distance from the Times Square Building. Then most of the issues go away .  I know you all are on some kind of time clock to get them out banded and back but is that really necessary since they are older and hardy compared to the 10 day old eyas being transported for fostering into nest boxes across states and who bounce back very well.. I'm sure a short transport wouldn't harm or stress the little ones any further if they were kept hydrated. Not across the county but just blocks away to a staging area. I can picture Watchers in their matching tees with placards holding back the masses. Was the last public banding the first time Beauty had offspring after our Kaver and Mariah disappeared? Maybe that stirred up more of a frenzied interest. Are their public bandings in Canada or out west held anywhere else off site from the nesting area?
Then again there's always the exception Tesh   surprise Never seen an eyas down on their back for a half hour .. That's really one for the record books lol

crying Unforgiving windy and rainy night atop the building in JC just feet from the Hudson River. The female was just sitting in the scrape and then moved to the back corner of the nestbox to escape the wind. I hope tonight she lays her first egg though shes 18 years old Im cheering her on. The sound of the wind and the dropping temps tonight.. eeep!

15  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Thank you for showing us around on: 27-Sep-13, 10:09:21 PM
Well it only took 12 years to finally make it up to Rochester to see one of my beloved peregrine falcons but arrive we did yesterday to meet Carol, Mak, and Joyce. It was a wonderful afternoon of Mariah, Kaver reminiscing 12 years of catching up to Beauty Smiley She did not disappoint with an appearance to my delight. Even leaving her dinner in the parking lot to mark the best vantage point to see her We watched as she preened on a high antenna. I had my Nikon binoculars which I bought years and years ago for just this occasion and there she was in all her Beauty. We also headed over to the gorge so I could pay homage to Mariah and Kaver for giving me such joy for 9 years, to their young that made it and to those who we lost especially our Isaura and  then to celebrate our new generation. I threw flowers off the bridge in celebration of all our beloved sweet raptors. Sadly we had to say goodbye after just a few hours spent with our lovely new and forever friends. Carol who I met online in 2002 and admire more then I could ever put into words!!!  Thank you sweet lady for responding to my email and spending the afternoon showing Walt and I all the falcon spots and sharing your stories of Mariah, Kaver and the juvies with us. Joyce for joining us with your pups and Mak with her little Sharpai charge. I was smiling for hours after we left. I miss Mariah and Kaver so much still but as Carol said I rather think of her with Kaver in a new spot enjoying many more years of life together. It was a beautiful day !  Thank you!!! Janie and Walt
