There's a reason outdoor cats have an average lifespan of 2-4 years. A nesting pair of hawks could bring the average in your neighorhood down. Keeping Rocky inside could move that average up. My cats enjoy the birds and squirrels from a warm, safe spot: on a cat perch by the picture window in my kitchen. Mary in Charlotte (NC)

Thank you all, especially to my younger twin, Donna (and I won't tell you all about the really risque card Janet sent) and Annette, patsy6, Lynne in NH, MAK, Carol and Carla. It was a wonderful birthday, full of good food, good company, good shopping and theater. Did I mention good food? Also mimosas. And lots of good food. And my UConn Huskies womens' basketball team put on its usual clinic. Excellent day all around. Mary in Charlotte (NC)

MAK, I notice you refer to your favorite red bird and his mate as Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal. I remember in school we learned to use honorifics for various and sundry personages, and that a Cardinal was to be addressed as "Your Eminence." Well, in my yard I often see His Eminence, but how to refer to a female Cardinal (of which the Church has none)? Her Eminence, of course!
Let me add my praise for your pictures -- they are really wonderful.

I got back last night from a week visiting family (and unable to visit the Forum), but your pictures make me feel as if I were really coming home, MAK. I can still hear your voice as you greeted the heifers last year: "Hello, Ladies."
