Osprey nest removed on Anna Maria Island, Florida

Ospreys who have nested for ten years on the steeple of a church on Anna Maria Island have now lost their nest. The church was fumigated, using poisonous gas, and the nest taken down. Poor ospreys.

Very sad for the Osprey but they could possibly rebuild, when the time comes, if they don’t put in place something that would stop them.  We’ve watched Osprey nests get blown down by the wind, after nesting season has ended at Iroquois NWR, only to be rebuilt in the spring. They build on tree stumps, in trees, on high wire platforms..very innovative builders.
